Horse Players Christmas – Breeders’ Cup Saturday

November 05, 2011 | Gary Quill

Friday’s opening act for Saturday’s races saw the extremes of horse racing. Three of the six Breeders’ Cup races were won by the Post Time favorite while the other three races were won by horses who closed at odds of 6-1, 20-1 and 27-1.

Saturday’s nine (9) Breeders’ Cup races have plenty of storylines to fill time between races for the broadcasters, such as can Eldaafer (in the Marathon), Big Drama (in the Sprint) and/or Chamberlain Bridge (in the Turf Sprint) successfully defend their his titles? Will undefeated 2 year old Union Rags win the Juvenile and emerge as the early favorite for the Kentucky Derby? Can Goldikova finish her racing career by winning the Mile for the fourth consecutive year? And finally, in the Classic can Havre de Grace become only the second filly or mare to beat the boys?

Post Time for the first BC race (is race 3 on the CD card) is scheduled for 1:50pm. The first 3 BC race (3rd race on Churchill Downs card) will only be broadcast on TVG. ABC will be broadcast races 4 thru 6 live, the ESPN will pickup the remaining five (5) races.

Below are my opinions on each of Saturday’s nine (9) Breeders’ Cup races. The horses are those who I feel have the best chance at winning versus being able to complete an Exacta, Trifecta or Superfecta. Hence, Double, Pick-3 and Pick-4 players take note. All Post Times listed are Eastern Daylight Time.

So you’re not buying Uncle Mo handling the mile & quarter either. I’ve never seen so many pundits come down on a pre-race favorite. I don’t think he can do it either, but this just adds to the drama that is the Classic.

[GQ added: Ruben I've never bought into Uncle Mo getting 1 1/4 miles and was disappointment last Spring that he couldn't run in the Derby to show it. At least today in the Classic he'll be able to (i.e. show he's a very good 1 mile - 1 1/16 mile race horse.]

[GQ added: I wished! Cannot seem to get a P4 to save my life!]

Yesterday morning before leaving for Laurel I was reading WSNT.net and your blog. It made me take a closer look at Drosselmeyer. I ended up putting $2 across the board. It pays to read WNST.net! Thanks for all the Horse Racing on WNST, the big local paper seems to ignore.
