Recapping Day 5 (Sunday, August 8th) selections at the Laurel Park Mini Meet…
Best Bet Ronnie’s Footnotes (# 1; 4th race; 9-2) was a late scratch after he threw the rider during the Post Parade and ran off.
Best Bet pick scorecard from 4 selections at the Laurel Mini Meet: 1 WIN – 0 PLACE – 1 SHOW.
Longshot Yente (# 9; 9th race on the turf;25-1) was virtually ignored at the betting window, but that won’t happen for his next start as he was clearly second best, lighting up the toteboard paying $20.40 PLACE and $11.40 to SHOW.
Longshot pick scorecard from 5 selections at the Laurel Mini Meet: 0 WIN – 1 PLACE – 1 SHOW
SHOW Parlay Play of the Day, $36 on Legal Code (# 2; 1st race; 3-1) was quick from the gate and surprisingly was uncontested throughout the early going and was able to prevail in a 3 horse photo for the WIN, paying $7.40 $3.60 and $2.60. That adds $10.20 to the bankroll to “Let It Ride” on Day 6.
For the Laurel Mini Meet, Day 6 (Friday, August 13th)…
Best Bet: I’m Your Gal (# 3; 4th race; 9-2)
Up against a tough customer in #6 – Queen La Turka (Even M/L), but this filly turns back in distance and drops back to the level ($7,500 Claiming) where she won 2 back. Jock Travis Dunkelberger’s only mount on the card.
Longshot: Berning Man (# 3; 7th race on the turf; 15-1)
This 3 y.o. gelding won at first asking like a champ on the dirt, then got buried at Penn National in Alw company then in last 2 tried going long on the turf, showing speed for about 6 panels then stopping in NW2L races (same level as today). Today’s event is 5 1/2 furlong on turf at the same level. I like the fact that capable turf jock (Russell Sheldon) opts for this one instead of #2 – Andy’s Champ (9-2).
SHOW Parlay available bankroll: $86.20 ($76 bankroll – $34 wager + $44.20 return)
SHOW Parlay Play of the Day: $44 on Enjoyable(# 7; 3rd race on turf; 9-5) makes her 51st career start, this will be the 43rd on the turf. The 8 year old mare has hit the board in 25 of 42 grass outings, while having a more impressive record on the Laurel Park (5 wins, 3 Place, 1 Show in 14 starts). The drop in claiming price to the lowest level in over a year is of no concern. Why? She’s 8! Who is gonig to claim an 8 year old?! If she does come through and finsih in the top 3, the SHOW pay-off won’t be much, but when you have a $44 bet, it adds up.
It’s going to be a great Mid-Summer evening, why not try to make it a great one money-wise and take in 9 exciting chase scenes thoroughbred horse racing has to offer at Laurel Park. Good Luck!
