No Gambling Expansion in Maryland for now; Colonial Downs Selections for Friday Night June 22nd

June 21, 2012 | Gary Quill

A state panel considering whether to expand gambling in Maryland failed to reach a consensus Wednesday, likely ending the possibility of a special General Assembly session on the issue this summer.

The panel unanimously recommended a series of sweeping changes to the state’s gambling law, but split 8-3 on the critical questions of whether to allow a sixth casino in Prince George’s County and whether to change the current 67 percent tax rate on slot machine revenues.

Leave it to the political machine of Maryland to continue to bungle around with the gambling law which limits casinos to slots while surrounding states prosper with table games. Maybe in another 10 years they’ll approve table games. By then PA, WV and DE will have sporting betting. Only then will these Einstein’s in Annapolis will suggest that Maryland casinos should offer Sports betting. Argghhh!

Recapping selections from Thursday, June 21st had 6 winners (3 Top Selections) with $2 WIN pay-offs being $23.40 (1st race), $19.40 (3rd), $10.40 (5th), $3.80 (6th), $4.40 (7th) and $9.40 (8th). The BEST BET of the Day (9 5-0-0) failed to get the early lead, but was game in the stretch between rivals but had to put on the brakes at the 1/16th pole behind the tiring pacesetter and had to settle for 4th as the 1-1 favorite. The LONGSHOT PICK (8 0-2-2) took action early, stalked the leader throughout, moved to the lead at the 1/8th pole but could not hold off the late charge of the eventual winner, losing by a neck @ 7-2 paying $5.40 to PLACE and $3.40 to SHOW.
