Preakness News: Where are all the horses?! Pimlico Sunday Selections

May 13, 2012 | Gary Quill

There’s just six (6) days until the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes and the lack of serious activity on the track has been underwhelming. Derby winner I’ll Have Another remains the only contender on the grounds at Old Hilltop, but over the next few days as more contenders become confirmed starters, they’ll arrive to put in their final workout over the Pimlico dirt oval.

With just 3 days until the Post Positions are drawn (Wednesday @ 6:00pm), only six (6) are confirmed to be entered… I’ll Have Another, Went The Day Well, Teeth Of The Dog, Tiger Walk, Optimizer and Zetterholm. There are two (2) who want to run…Brimstone Island and Guyana Star Dweej, but based on the Preakness starter pecking order, they need one or more of this group of eight (8) elect not to run in the Preakness. They are Bodemeister, Creative Cause, Liaison, Hansen, Isn’t He Clever, Hierro, Pretension and Cozzetti.

Recapping selections from Day 25 (Saturday, May 12th) had 6 winners (2 Top Selections) with the $2 Exactas in the 1st ($7.00) 3rd ($17.40), 4th ($22.80), 7th ($34.20), 8th ($17.60) and 9th ($18.20) races; $1 Trifecta in 7th ($40.40) and 8th ($32.20) races.

The BEST BET (25 10-7-3) was no match for the winner, but was game enough to be second as the 3-1 3rd betting choice, returning $4.40 PLACE and $3.00 to SHOW. The LONGSHOT PICK (25 2-2-8) lagged far behind in the early going, rallied in the stretch but ran out of real estate, finishing 4th @ 13-1.
