When Thanksgiving and Horse Racing Meet; Thursday Selections at Laurel Park

November 21, 2012 | Gary Quill

Recapping my most previously posted pathetic selections (say that fast 3 times) at Laurel Park from Saturday, October 27th had just 4 winners from 11 races (1 Top Selections; pay-offs shown in BOLD type) having $2 WIN pay-offs of $4.20 (2nd race), $3.20 (4th), $6.80 (8th) and $6.60 (11th).

The BEST BET of the Day (8 3-1-2) was sent-off the 2-1 second choice behind the mighty Ben’s Cat who many thought should have been supplemented to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Well, his trainer King T. Leatherbury saved $100k by not heading west, keeping Ben’s Cat home to race at Laurel. But on this day he was not the best, as Jazzy Idea (the BEST BET selection) ran down the local grass champ in deep stretch to prevail by ¾ of a length to return $6.80 to WIN, $3.60 to PLACE and $2.80 to SHOW.

The LONGSHOT PICK (8 3-0-0) Touring Hong Kong took a tour of the Laurel Park firm course, getting the closest look at the outer fence throughout the sprint. He ran to his 11-1 odds by placing 7th of 12 runners. Considering the outland route he took, he might be worth a look in his next outing if on the grass.

For Thursday races the weather forecast calls for partly Cloudy skies, but 0% chance of precipitation. So the MAIN TRACK should be FAST and TURF courses FIRM.
