Laurel Park Adds Tuesday Racing; Rapid Redux Next Start

October 07, 2011 | Gary Quill

Life must be good at Laurel Park so far this during the Fall Meet as the Maryland Jockey Club (MJC) announced that it will add Tuesday to its live racing schedule next week for the remainder of the meeting.

               Laurel Park 100 years

Live racing will be conducted at the central Maryland track on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday through Saturday, December 17, with one exception. Next week, Laurel will take advantage of the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 10 to conduct a nine race card, hoping those who get to enjoy a day off from work will discover (get it?!) the thrills of thoroughbred horse racing. There will be no live racing on Wednesday, October 12.

Rapid Redux, the 5 year old gelded son of Pleasantly Perfect, winner of 17 consecutive starts, just two away from the all-time North American record of 19 straight victories held by Zenyatta and Pepper’s Pride, has been entered as a main track only runner at Laurel Park in Tuesday’s 5th race. It’s a $18,000 Starter Allowance scheduled on the turf. Rain is not in the forecast until Wednesday so it is unlikely the race will come off the grass.

 Rapid Redux

Do not fret. Robert Cole who owns Rapid Redux indicated his runner would likely be entered in a $25,000 Starter Allowance at 1 1/8 miles, scheduled for Friday, October 14 at Charles Town and a $17,000 Starter Allowance race at one mile at Laurel Park to be run Saturday, October 15. Just in case neither of those races fill or Rapid Redux winds up on the Also Eligible list, MJC’s Racing Secretary Georganne Hale also has a $17,000 Starter Allowance race at five-furlongs in her condition book for Tuesday, October 18.
