COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Five members of the University of Maryland men’s lacrosse team were named to the 2013 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic team as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Leading the way for the Terps is senior Owen Blye, who made the team for the third time. Joining Blye on the team from Maryland are fellow seniors Jesse Bernhardt and Landon Carr, who each earned their second All-ACC Academic team honors, and sophomore Jay Carlson and freshman Matt Dunn.
Bernhardt is one of two men’s lacrosse student-athletes who earned first team USILA All-America honors, while also securing a spot on the All-ACC Academic squad. Blye is one of seven three-time selections to the All-ACC Academic team. Bernhardt, Blye and Carr were also selected to the USILA Scholar All-America team in May.
Duke junior Brendan Fowler, a sociology major, was named the conference’s men’s lacrosse scholar athlete of the year.
Duke led the way with nine student-athletes on the team. North Carolina had eight honorees and Virginia had six representatives on the team.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
