Loyola Stays Perfect With Win At Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y. – Mike Sawyer and Eric Lusby combined to score seven goals, and the top-ranked Loyola University Maryland men’s lacrosse team lead wire-to-wire on Saturday afternoon, finishing its ECAC Lacrosse League regular-season schedule undefeated with a 17-6 win at Hobart College.

Sawyer finished with four goals and an assist, while Lusby tacked on three goals and an assist. Fellow Tewaaraton Award candidate Scott Ratliff scored a goal, assisted on two, caused four turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Davis Butts added two goals and an assist.

The Greyhounds (12-0 overall, 6-0 ECAC) scored the game’s first five goals, starting when Josh Hawkins scored in transition 1:27 into the contest.

Lusby, Butts, Pat Byrnes, Mike Sawyer (two) and Kyle Duffy all scored in the first quarter, and the Greyhounds led 7-1 at the end of the first 15 minutes.

Loyola outshot Hobart (3-9, 1-4), 42-36, and picked up 31 ground balls to the Statesmen’s 28. Joe Fletcher led the way with five off the ground, and goalkeeper Jack Runkel had four in addition to eight saves.
