BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team will travel to Boston to face the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m., at Boston College.

The Greyhounds (14-5, 8-0 Patriot League) earned an automatic bid to the national tournament after winning the Patriot League title in its inaugural year in the league. UMass (18-1, 7-0 Atlantic 10) also won its conference tournament this year, beating Richmond, 10-6, in the Atlantic 10 Championship game today.

This will mark the fourth-straight year that Loyola has participated in the NCAA Championships and will be the 17th appearance for the Greyhounds in program history. Loyola holds an overall record of 14-16 in tournament games.

The last time the Greyhounds faced UMass was in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament at Ridley Athletic Complex. Loyola earned a 14-7 victory that year.

The winner of Friday’s game will advance to the second round to face the winner of seventh-seeded Boston College and Bryant on Sunday. The semifinals and finals of this year’s NCAA Tournament are scheduled for May 23 and 25 at Towson’s Johnny Unitas Stadium.
