No. 2 Maryland falls to top-ranked Albany in 11-10 final

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Midfielder Connor Kelly totaled five points and Dan Morris posted 10 saves as the No. 2 Maryland men’s lacrosse team fell to No. 1 Albany, 11-10, in an Saturday afternoon.

More than 7,400 fans gathered in Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium for the game, which featured the first “1 vs 2” matchup in College Park since 1987.

Maryland (5-1) never trailed in the game until Albany’s Connor Fields scored the game-winner with 1:16 remaining to put the Great Danes (5-0) up 11-10.

The Terrapins entered the fourth quarter with a 10-6 advantage, but could not hold off the nation’s top-scoring offense of Albany.

Senior defenseman Bryce Young matched up against freshman phenom Tehoka Nanticoke and held him without a goal for the first time in his career.

Kelly’s two goals gave him 97 for his career, as he inches closer to becoming just the second midfielder in Maryland history to record 100 career goals (Frank Urso).

Maryland returns to action next weekend when it heads to Villanova for a 1:00 pm faceoff on March 17.
