Towson lacrosse tries to bounce back Wednesday at Loyola

 Towson Lacrosse (1-1) makes its second trip down Charles Street in five days to take on No. 9 Loyola (1-1) on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Ridley Athletic Complex. The game will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.

The Series: The Greyhounds’ 14-9 win last season on Feb. 20 gave Loyola the edge in the all-time series, 28-27. That win was the latest in a string of six straight victories for the ‘Hounds. The teams first met in 1959 – Towson’s second season as a program. Loyola pulled out an 8-6 victory in ’59. The Greyhounds’ present win streak dates to Feb. 23, 2008, a 13-8 decision at Unitas Stadium.

Last Time Out For Towson: Junior co-captain Greg Cuccinello notched his third career hat trick with four goals in Towson’s 15-8 loss at No. 11 Johns Hopkins on Feb. 15. Four other Tigers had one goal apiece. Freshman Ryan Drenner recorded three assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler White recorded a career-high 18 saves, the most saves by a Tiger since April 6, 2013 when then-senior Andrew Wascavage made 20 saves against UMass.

Scouting the Greyhounds: Loyola is coming off a 12-11 overtime thriller over then-No. 9 Penn State on Feb. 15. Nikko Pontrello scored the game-winning goal 19 seconds into overtime for the win. Pontrello and Tyler Albrecht lead the team in goals (5). Justin Ward‘s seven points are a team-best. He is the ‘Hounds’ assist leader (6). Jack Runkel starts in net for Loyola. He has a goals-against average (GAA) of 12.97 and a save percentage of .405. Graham Savio is the primary face-off man. He has won 19-of-26 at the “X” for a .731 percentage.
