One last ODD THING about this away jerseys saga…

May 18, 2007 | Drew Forrester

Roch Kubatko of The Sun has spent a lot of time on this story today.  He’s blogged at least two times, maybe three about the issue of the O’s returning “BALTIMORE” to the road jerseys in 2008.

Earlier today, he wrote that he had heard from two team officials (one was ADAMANT) that both said the team would NOT be changing the uniforms in 2008.

Now, he’s just posted another blog (read it here) and says yet another high-ranking official has told him the paperwork hasn’t yet been submitted (the deadline is May 31) for the ’08 uniform change.

Here’s my question.  (I feel like Tom Cruise in “A Few Good Men” when in the late stages of the trial with Jack Nicholson, he breaks open the entire case by saying, “I’m wondering why Private Santiago’s bags weren’t packed?”)

If these three O’s officials are ADAMANT that the change to the uniforms isn’t going to be made for ’08 and if the paperwork hasn’t been submitted, why then are these officials not named in Kubatko’s blog?

After all, if it IS a done deal, why wouldn’t the Orioles’ people just say so, put their names next to it and the story would die, right?

I’m NOT saying Roch doesn’t have three people telling him this…not at all.  I’m sure he’s talked to three officials of the team – hell, he spends so much time at the ballpark he probably has a couch, a microwave and a nice stereo in one of the unsold suites.  But why won’t the O’s execs allow Kubatko to quote them?  One of them HAS to be John Angelos…no doubt at all about that.  So why wouldn’t John Angelos allow Roch to use his name?  I don’t get it.

I have three people closely associated with the club who have told me differently, but I’m in a different position than Kubatko.  I absolutely CAN’T link my story to those names – for obvious reasons.  One of them would be terminated by the team immediately, one who’s a former employee would probably be – as he/she jokingly told me today – treated like Nestor and never be allowed in the stadium again – lol – and the third would face retribution at virtually every home game.

I’m on the side of the fence where my “sources” can’t be revealed for fear of backlash.

But why won’t the O’s execs just step forward, say what’s on their mind and let Kubatko print their name(s) so we can all see who’s involved in this situation?

Why the secrecy?  I just don’t get it.

Good night all -
