It’s now nearly 7am on opening day.
And WNST Radio still doesn’t media credentials for the 2007 baseball season.
I probably shouldn’t be that surprised – after all, this is sort-of what they did to WBAL back in January when they summarily dismissed them as the flagship station after 19 seasons. WBAL was told by O’s brass they could no longer take phone calls from listeners after games…evidently, the warranted criticism from callers was too much for baseball execs to stomach. So CBS Radio came along and sold their souls and obligated themselves to not taking calls from listeners after games and, voila!, a deal was made.
It all makes sense, right? I mean, after all, why should the team care what the listeners/fans think about the games, right?
So here we are today…opening day is 8 hours away. And the “rumor on the street” is we’re not getting credentials at WNST. We were told by the O’s PR staff that they’d get back to us as soon as they “heard something” from upstairs. That was Saturday afternoon around 3:00 pm.
I’m still betting we get credentialed sometime today. They’ve done (and still do) a lot of dumb things over there at Camden Yards but they’re not this dumb.
Or are they?
