Angels Withdraw From Tex Gate – Where Do The O’s Fit In?

December 21, 2008 |

I was driving home from Conrad’s Crabs this evening, listening to WNST as usual. During the Fox Sports Report, the announcer declared that the Angels have withdrawn their 8 year/$160 million offer from the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes.

Needless to say, this surprised me…and it also made me think that maybe…just maybe…the Orioles are making a strong play for Tex behind the scenes and that we may not know about it.

Remember who we’re dealing with here: Scott Boras and the MLB front office elite, most of whom lie to us with a smile on their face on a regular basis this time of year. So much for the holiday spirit, right?

This report is in reference to an article by MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com. You can check out the article here:

Well…where do you think the O’s fit in now?

As I’m sure you’re aware of (because it’s been the feature story all week on WNST.net), Red Sox owner John Henry sent an email out to the Associated Press earlier this week declaring that they have also withdrawn their offer for Tex, citing that the price became too steep.

Is this more smoke and mirrors from the compulsive liars that run this side of the business? Or do the Orioles now move into the lead for landing the coveted first baseman?
