MASN Keeping Wieters’ Debut In Low Def Perspective?

May 29, 2009 | Thyrl Nelson

With the eyes of the entire baseball world seemingly on Camden Yards tonight for the debut of Matt Wieters, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype. In fact, it would seem that the Wieters watch is getting almost as much attention nationally as it is locally.

I guess you could say that it’s refreshing that the team’s own network won’t be getting caught up in that hype though. MASN, apparently unwilling to get caught up in the euphoria of Wieters fever, is still listing Washington vs. Philadelphia as their HD broadcast for tonight.

You’d think, or hope at least that they’ll fix it before game time, either by switching the game, or allowing one of the local channels to broadcast it, but I haven’t seen or heard anything as yet. It looks like if you want to see Wieters’ debut in HD tonight, you’ll have to stay up late for the rebroadcast.

I’m still excited as hell to see the kid tonight, but maybe a little less so, since the game will be in stunning low def. The Nats are playing the World Champs afterall. Congrats to MASN for not getting caught up in the hype, and keeping things in perspective.

Actually, if Wieters is all that he’s been cracked up to be, he’ll probably show up in Hi-Def on either channel. Maybe that’s what MASN is counting on.

Peace,

T
