O’s Place Luke Scott on the 15-day DL to make room for Hill; Tonight’s O’s – Royals Lineups

May 16, 2009 |

Tonight at 7:10pm in Kansas City, Rich Hill will be making his Oriole debut and first big league start of the season against the Royals.  He returns to the team after starting the season on the disabled list due to a strained left pitching elbow.

To make room on the team’s 25-man active roster, the Orioles have decided to place Luke Scott on the 15-day DL, retro-active to May 10.  The O’s outfielder/designated hitter won’t be eligible to be back in Dave Trembley’s lineup until at least May 26th.  The move makes clear that Scott’s sore shoulder is obviously in worse shape than Adam Jones’ hamstring, as both have been day-to-day this week nursing their respective injuries.

After it was announced that Hill would be tonight’s starter after four rehabilitation starts in the minors, there was much speculation about what roster move the front office would make.

It was thought there were several viable options, including sending Nolan Reimold or Lou Montanez back to triple-A Norfolk, releasing Felix Pie (who is out of minor league options) outright, or placing Scott or Jones on the DL.

Opposing Hill on the mound tonight for the Royals will be 25-year old right-hander, Kyle Davies.  Davies, once a highly regarded Atlanta Braves prospect, has gone 2-1 overall with a 5.66 ERA through his seven starts this season with Kansas City.

Here are tonight’s starting lineups:
