The O’s New Jersey – Will It Matter?

November 13, 2008 |

I agree with some of the other blogs on this web site. The Orioles need to improve on the field to get the fans back in the park. I drove by the warehouse tonight and they have a Nick Markakis poster where he is modeling the new road jersey hanging from the warehouse. It is just like the one they had up when Cal went into the Hall of Fame.

I like the new road jersey with Baltimore on the front like it should be and if they want to have new road BP jerseys to go with them that is ok but why keep changing the home jersey. I like the fact that teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Reds and others have had pretty much the same uniform for a very long time. It is good to see Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle wearing pretty much the same uniforms as Jeter or David Ortiz wear today.

I would love to see Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell, and Cal Ripken all wearing similar uniforms. I think Ripken wore 3 or 4 different styles during his career.  If they have to change them I like the changes they made with the state flag on the sleeve etc. The bottom line is though if Mark Texiera, A.J. Burnett, or another big time player isn’t putting the new uniform on next year the O’s will finish last again next season.

You know by now the Yankees and Red Sox aren’t going anywhere. Tampa has most of their young players locked up for the next few seasons and even more good young players still in the minors. Toronto will be hanging around also. The O’s need to back up these new jerseys with talent if they want the people of Baltimore to come out to see them next season.
