Today’s Orioles – Tigers Lineups

August 06, 2009 |

This afternoon at 1:05pm the Orioles will finish off their four game set against the Detroit Tigers and will look to gain a series split at Comerica Park.  They’ll do so with Matt Wieters returning to the lineup after receiving rest last night, but without Adam Jones, whom gets a rare day off.  Felix Pie will patrol centerfield in his place.

Today’s pitching matchup features a pair of rookie rightys whom their teams hope to be mainstains in their rotations for the foreseeable future.

For the O’s, it’ll be David Hernandez, who has definitely been more good than bad heading into his ninth big league start.  He’s gone 3-3 with a 3.28 ERA, but is coming off an unspectacular outing last Saturday against the Red Sox.  The 24-year old, seeing Boston for the second time in a week, only made it into the fifth and gave up seven hits and a pair of earned runs while being out-dueled by Josh Beckett in the 4-0 Oriole loss.

On the mound for the A.L. Central leaders this afternoon will be Rick Porcello.  Despite not turning 21-years old until December and never pitching above high-A ball in the minors, he’s taken to the majors like a natural.  Through 19 starts Porcello is 9-7 with a 4.28 ERA.  He’s simply the best pitcher in all of baseball.  OK, maybe a little overdone there… but he did graduate from the same high school, Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, New Jeresey, as yours truly.
