Tonight’s Orioles – Mariners Lineups

June 01, 2009 |

The Orioles have made the long flight out to the Pacific Northwest and will be at Safeco Field tonight to take on the Mariners starting at 10:10pm EST.  This evening’s series opener is the first of three in Seattle before concluding their six-game roadtrip with a stop down to Oakland for three.  The O’s come in having taken seven of their last 10 and riding the momentum of the organization’s youth movement, which has brought the debut of Matt Wieters over this past weekend.

Rich Hill will get the nod tonight and will be on the mound for the fourth time in an Oriole uniform.  In his first two outings Hill was pretty good in yielding just two earned over 5.2 innings in both a win over the Royals and a no-decision against Nats.  However his last effort, not the lefty’s best; Hill surrendered six earned runs in just 3.1 innings and was lucky to be taken off the hook by his teammates in a 12-10 extra inning win over Toronto.  All total, Hill has gone 1-0 with a 6.14 ERA this season with 15 strikeouts.

The Mariners will also have a lefty of their own going in 12-year veteran Jarrod Washburn.  Washburn is 3-3 with a 3.75 ERA through six starts in this ’09 season.  In his three wins, including his last outing in Oakland, Washburn has pitched 20.0 innings and has given up only two runs.  In his three losses, he’s been well… not as good; teams have racked up 18 runs in 16.1 innings pitched in those appearances.
