Tonight’s Orioles – Mets Lineups

June 16, 2009 |

Tonight at 7:05pm the Orioles will host the New York Mets in the series opener of the teams’ three-game midweek set downtown at Camden Yards.  The Birds seek their third consecutive win after defeating the Braves 11-2 on Saturday and 8-4 in the rubber-game of the series on Sunday.  Most importantly, the offense has finally seemed to come back to life of late.  The 19 runs scored over the last two games are the same amount the O’s had scored in their previous 11 outings beforehand.

On the mound for Dave Trembley’s bunch this evening will be this season’s opening day starter, Jeremy Guthrie.  In his first 13 starts of the year Guthrie has rarely pitched up to an ‘ace’-like level, as he’s only given up two earned runs or less twice.  Rebounding from his ugly 0.2 inning, 6 ER performance in Oakland, Guthrie took another loss five days ago against the Mariners after yielding four runs over his six innings of work.  The defeat lowered his season record to 4-6, and actually lowered his ERA as well, down to 5.52 (not sure that’s a good thing).  However, looking on the bright side, Guthrie has been a much better pitcher at Camden Yards this season — his 3.94 ERA at home doesn’t look anywhere near as horrific as his 8.53 mark away from Baltimore.

Mike Pelfrey is in his second full season in the Metropolitans starting rotation and will make his twelfth appearance of the year tonight.  The 6’7, 240lb right-hander has put together a 4-2 campaign and has pitched to an ERA of 4.38 thus far this season.  After a great April, Pelfrey has had two rough outings in June, against the Pirates and Phillies, in total going 0-1 with an ERA well over 9.00.  The 25-year old is a prototypical corn-fed hard-thrower from the Midwest… he even graduated from Wichita State.

Here are the players in tonight’s starting lineups:
