Tonight’s Orioles – Nationals Lineups

May 22, 2009 |

Another epic chapter of the “Battle of the Beltways” will be written tonight starting at 7:05pm when the Orioles travel down I-95 to take on their despised National League neighbors to the south, the Washington Nationals.

Tonight’s game is the first of three between to the two struggling mid-Atlantic squads over this Memorial Day weekend.  The Orioles come in after being swept by the Yankees in the Bronx and overall losers in five of their last six games.  Meanwhile the disaster has continued in Washington; the Nats have only won 12 games so far this season and find themselves already 10.5 games back in the N.L. East.

On the bright side, Rich Hill has been great in every start he’s ever made wearing an Orioles uniform and he gets the nod tonight for Dave Trembley’s team.  OK, OK, so he’s only made one start, but it was a great outing nonetheless.  Last weekend in Kansas City, Hill was strong in 5.2 innings and got the win in a tight 3-2 game.  He gave up just two runs and scattered seven Royal hits, while striking out six and walking only two.  Two years ago he was 5th in the entire National League in strikeouts with the Cubs in his only full season in the bigs… just something to keep in mind.

Jordan Zimmerman will be on the mound tonight for the Nats and manager Manny Acta.  The 22-year old rookie will be making the seventh start of his career and so far has gone 2-1 with an ERA of 6.35.

Here are tonight’s starting lineups:
