Trembley speaks and picking between Scott or Pie

February 16, 2009 |

With spring training under way, Dave Trembley spoke with about camp and the upcoming season. Here is the video of the interview. I will try to bring you different interviews from camp each day.
Left field will be a position to keep an eye on as the team goes through spring training. Felix Pie and Luke Scott are expected to battle it out to be the starter. In my opinion, Pie has the inside track, because he has more speed and maybe is better defensively than Scott.
Pie may not have the power to hit homers like Scott, and sometimes when he hits a couple of HRs, he begins to think that he is a power hitter, which he is not. Pie also tends to strikeout a lot. There are several comparisons of Pie to Corey Patterson. Pie, like Patterson, is a guy that just has to find a way on base, because once he does that, he is a threat to steal, and he can go from first to third easily.
Scott had a solid season last year, but will he be able to hit that way again this year? While Scott brings more power to the plate, he does not have the speed on the basepaths that Pie does. If he is not the left fielder, he will be a nice guy to have on your bench in a pinch-hitter/DH-type role. In the end, Scott will probably lose out to Pie because of what he can do defensively in the outfield.
What do you think?
