NBA Free Agency Frenzie Has Begun!!!

July 03, 2012 | Eric Green

Free Agency…this is part of the reason why I absolutely love sports, the on the court and field action, playoffs, and I love the off season signings, trades, and contract restructuring. With that said, the NBA free agency is underway and is great. Many things to get to, and for starters, arguably one of the best players in the league Dwight Howard. The Dwight Howard soap opera has been going on since the middle of the season and is still going on. First he supposedly wants his coach fired then he doesn’t, he wants to stay in Orlando now he doesn’t. This guy cannot seem to make up his mind even if his life depended on it. Now it seems to be concrete that he wants to take his talents to the Brooklyn Nets. Their are a lot of suitors for Howard, the LA Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and including the Brooklyn Nets where Dwight Howard only wants to play. Orlando should definately hold out, and see what other teams are offering and willing to give up.  The proposed trade between Brooklyn and Orlando, have Brooklyn giving up Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Brook Lopez, three future first round picks, for Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu. Brooklyn is not waiting around for Orlando to agree on a deal for Howard, so they have set their sights on all-star Joe Johnson. The trade for Johnson though is not final, but it includes Brooklyn giving up a first round pick, and players with expiring contracts to make way for Johnson huge contract. Brooklyn makes the move to try and persuade another all-star guard Deron Williams to resign with the team. In Boston, a Celtics team that no one thought would be one win away from the NBA Finals. This off season they have resigned Kevin Garnett to a three year deal for 34 million dollars. If Garnett finishes his three year deal, he will become the highest paid player salary career wise with 325 million dollars, surpasses Shaq who finished with 292 million dollars. The Celtics are hopeful that they can resign free agent guard Ray Allen. Boston is the only team that can offer the most money to Allen, as they have offered him a two year deal worth 12 million dollars. This Thursday however, Ray Allen is scheduled to meet with NBA champion, the Miami Heat, and the LA Clippers Friday. Free agent guard, Jason Terry is close to a deal with the Celtics, as the Dallas Mavericks are somewhat strapped for cash to resign him. Lets not forget about another all-star player in Steve Nash who is being eyed by several teams, the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and the Toronto Raptors. All of this is going on and free agency has just begun, stay tuned!
