50 words or less …. plight of the birds bats, and Bisciotti on the Bears

May 03, 2011 |

The Orioles have been looking for a SWEEP as they’ve entered the final game of the last two series’. They’re 0-2 in these games, but failing to sweep a series on the final game also translates into winning more games, overall.

Tonight, they begin a three game stretch against the surprising Kansas City Royals. These are the games an improved Orioles team must win, especially as some tougher competition awaits in the horizon. Get out the brooms and take three in KC !!!!

Today’s edition of “50 Words Or Less” …..

Renewed Hitting? Think Again …..
.

The Orioles have won 5 of their last 7 games. An immediate observation or hunch might suggest the lineup is showing signs of life.

Such observations are a little misleading. Prior to this 7-game stretch, the team was collectively hitting .237 on the season. Over this “hot streak”, they’re hitting just .256, overall. This includes 8 homeruns and 5 stolen bases.

Signs of life? Maybe …. but they’re still capable of much better production.

Mr. 400 & Counting
.

On this day, in 1992, Eddie Murray belted the 400th homerun of his career. The sad part to such an achievement? He did it in a New York Mets uniform.

I recall attending the first game ever played at Camden Yards – it was an exhibition against the Mets, and seeing Eddie in that jersey was a sobering sight. At least this wrong was finally “righted” and he hit #500 in an Orioles uniform.

Now That’s Funny

As imagined, last night late shows were brimming with Osama Bin Laden humor. The best line I heard came from David Letterman during his “Top 10 – Finals Words Of Osama Bin Laden” …..

“I need a house full of Navy SEALS, like I need a hole in the head”

While You Were Sleeping …. Or Watching The Orioles

The UFL Draft took place last night …. ON TWITTER !!!! That’s right, no television coverage on some obscure cable channel – just social media’s most instantaneous web format.

Will the UFL ever make it? I highly doubt it – they haven’t even updated the league or team websites with draft selections.

In case you were wondering, the Virginia Destroyers selected Adrian Peterson. No …. not that Adrian Peterson.

Guess Who?
.

Yep, she’s still got IT. At 45, Cindy Crawford is gracing the May issue of Elle Magazine’s issue on newsstands in China. She still looks hot as ever …..

I still fondly recall the Playboy pictorial – one of my all time favorites.

Still Not Over It
.

Lets face it, whenever we hear from Ravens owner, Steve Bisciotti, it’s usually newsworthy. And, this is no exception …..

Mr. Bisciotti is still smarting over the trade debacle with the Chicago Bears; a lowlight and embarrassing situation for all involved. Is he pissed? You be the judge:

“I’m disappointed in the Bears and the McCaskeys,” Bisciotti said.

“It is, in my opinion, a deviation from their great legacy. They concluded that their heartfelt and admirable apology was sufficient for our loss. All of us at the Ravens strongly disagree … probably end of story.”

GO GET ‘EM STEVE !!!!!
