Michael Oher quotes from NFL presser

April 26, 2009 | Chris Pika

Michael Oher was interviewed yesterday after his selection at #23 by the Ravens. Here are is quotes from the press conference (provided by the NFL).

(on joining the Ravens) “It feels great just to be in the NFL. It’s unbelievable.”

(on waiting until pick #23): “It could have been shorter, but it doesn’t matter. I got drafted and that’s the most important thing … I was excited because I knew I was going to get drafted. Don’t feel sorry for me. As long as I was drafted, I’m good. People at home probably felt like it was forever, but to me it wasn’t. I’m in New York, I knew I was going to get drafted. I knew I was going to walk across the stage, so I’m good”

(on waiting three hours): “Was it three hours? It couldn’t have been three hours. It was about an hour wasn’t it? Dad, he was telling jokes and stuff, so he was keeping everybody up. It didn’t seem like it was three hours though. I don’t think it was three hours.”

(on the Baltimore area) “When I visited, it was a great location. The facilities were great. They’ve got a great team. They’ve got a passionate team and a team who is looking to win the Super Bowl so I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

(on facing the Ravens defense in practice): “It’s going to be a lot of fun. They’re full speed like I’m full speed. I can’t wait”

(on receiving a phone call from the Ravens): “It was Ozzie [Newsome]. It was the best call I’ve ever had…He just told me ‘we’re going to pick you’. That’s all I heard and that’s all I needed to know.”

(on if he’s reflected on how he’s gotten to this position): “I’ve thought about it about a thousand times since I’ve been in New York. It’s definitely been a tough and long road for me, but I’ve overcame a lot and I’m here today.”

(on the key to getting to the draft): “Just a lot of hard work and dedication. I set my goals extremely high and I made it.”

(on what he’s looking forward to most for being part of the Ravens): “Just being a part of an NFL team. The Ravens have a great tradition, a great offense. Joe Flacco had a great year last year. The defense is unbelievable. I’m looking forward to competing for a Super Bowl.”
