I can’t help myself because every time I review the wide receiver prospects in this year’s NFL draft I keep getting drawn to Kenny Britt. It could be Britt’s perfect receiver size (6’3 ¼” and 218 lbs.) or maybe the fact that he has 149 receptions, over 2,600 yards, and 15 touchdowns in the past two seasons playing at Rutgers, whatever it is I’m totally smitten! Now I know that I’m not the only one swept up in the Kenny Britt fan club madness that has caused his draft stock to skyrocket, because 29 NFL teams checked out the big time playmaker at his pro day held at Rutgers University. Once considered a second to third round talent, Britt’s off season workouts have clearly established Britt as a bona fide first round draft pick, with some mock drafts now having Britt being taken with one of the first 20 picks of the draft, especially after recent reports indicated that Britt met with the Jets (#17) earlier this week. In my mock draft I have Britt going to the New York Giants with the #29 pick as their heir apparent to the recently released Plaxico Burress, but Britt might not be on the board that late anymore. Simply by looking at Britt’s body and body of work, it’s hard not to compare him with some of the top “physical” receivers in the NFL, such as Larry Fitzgerald, Terrell Owens, Dwayne Bowe, and Andre Johnson. In addition to Britt’s height and weight, the big guy can run (4.5 40 yard dash), jump (37 ½ inch vertical), and bench (23 x 225 lbs) with the best of them making Kenny Britt my official “man-crush of the week”.
