The LA Kings must have felt like they were in hell last night as the New Jersey Devils delayed their dream of winning their first Stanley Cup. Southern California was poised to host a giant victory party that never came to fruition.

The Devils pitch forked their way to play another day. Down 3-0 in the series, most of the experts thought that LA would wrap it up last night. With a fiery start and a stellar performance by Marty Brodeur, the Devils staved off elimination with a 3-1 victory.

The Kings had their opportunities; they hit two first period goal posts, and missed on a 3rd period breakaway that Brodeur poke checked away. The game was scoreless in the third period when Patrick Elias score off a rebound. The Kings tied it about a minute later on a controversial power play. New Jersey took the lead with four minutes and change left in regulation when Adam Henique sent the puck over Jonathon Quick’s right shoulder. They then added an empty net goal. Marty Broduer had 22 saves on 23 shots.

The two teams will square off again in Newark Saturday night at 8 pm EST on NBC.
