Almost two weeks ago at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention here in Baltimore, the Womens’ Professional Soccer (WPS) league unveiled their new logo. Recognize Mia Hamm’s silhouette?
They announced in September that they expect to field teams in Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and New York/New Jersey.
So what will make this attempt at a successful women’s pro league stick: better planning and organization, better financial backing, or simply time?
I think it could be challenging in this economy even if you have all of these things in the league’s favor.
I hope 2009 is a good year from US women and professional soccer. I’ll be eagerly watching.
