12. Marcelo Balboa —
Balboa was a fixture in the 1990’s and helped pave the way for American soccer to get international respect with his hard nosed style of play and sound technical game. Was a solid defensive player and occasional offensive contributor, with 13 goals in 127 appearances for the U.S. Man-to-man marking skills weren’t top notch, but he was good in the air and was a tough force in the box on set pieces for and against.
Although the clip below is actually NOT a goal, it’s still the most widely circulated highlight of Balboa’s career because of the near-miss nature of his bicycle kick attempt.
