Rolando McClain arrested again in Alabama

Posted on 22 April 2013 by WNST Staff

As first reported by WHNT in Huntsville, Baltimore Ravens LB Rolando McClain was arrested again Sunday night in his hometown of Decatur, Ala.

McClain was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, both misdemeanor charges.

According to the WHNT report, McClain was arrested at Pines Park. Police forced a large crowd gathered in the park to leave when the troubled former Crimson Tide LB refused to and began cursing at the police.

McClain’s arrest is the latest in a disturbing track record over recent years. He was arrested in 2011 and charged with reckless endangerment, menacing, third-degree assault and firing a gun in city limits. A conviction was overturned in circuit court when the victim declined to testify. He was arrested again in 2013 for a window tint violation and gave arresting officers a false name.

McClain was suspended two games for conduct detrimental to the Oakland Raiders in 2012, the suspension was reportedly separate from the off-field issues. He said he was “mentally done” as a Raider via a Facebook post during the course of last season, adding “looking forward to playing for an actual ‘team.’”

The Ravens signed McClain two weeks ago, giving him a deal worth as much as $1.1 million. General Manager Ozzie Newsome told reporters “Rolando is just (being) given an opportunity to make our 53-man roster, that’s it” last week. He added ”I think the guys in the locker room will be able to provide him with the proper guidance as to the way John (Harbaugh) wants his football players to be.”

McClain purchased a home in Madison, Ala. earlier this offseason and vowed to clean up his act off the field prior to signing a one-year deal with the Ravens.

That included an admission that he needed to distance himself from his hometown in order to get his career back on track.

“I love my friends and my city and I won’t turn my back on them,” McClain told the Madison Weekly News in March. “I just need to make better decisions in my life. I won’t be making as many visits to Decatur.”

As of late Sunday night, the Ravens had not offered public comment about the arrest.

WNST will continue to monitor and update this story throughout the day Monday via AM1570, WNST.net and @WNST on Twitter.

McClain passes physical to make acquisition official

Posted on 12 April 2013 by WNST Staff

The Baltimore Ravens have officially signed LB Rolando McClain to a one-year deal, general manager and executive vice president Ozzie Newsome announced.

McClain, who passed a physical Friday, has spent his entire three-year NFL career with the Oakland Raiders after being selected in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2010 Draft.

Seeing action in 41 career games (38 starts), the 6-4, 259-pounder has posted 274 tackles (195 solo), 6.5 sacks (-42.5 yards), one interception, one forced fumble and 23 passes defensed.

During the 2012 campaign, McClain, 23, appeared in 11 contests (nine starts), finishing with 90 tackles (59 solo), one sack, one forced fumble and three passes defensed.

Drafted out of the University of Alabama, in 2009 McClain was honored with both the Butkus Award and Jack Lambert Award as the nation’s top collegiate linebacker. That season, he helped the Crimson Tide, along with fellow Ravens NT Terrence Cody and OLB Courtney Upshaw, produce an undefeated season en route to the BCS National Championship.

I wish I could say I wasn’t familiar with Ryan Cabrera. I wish more that I could say I didn’t enjoy this song.

Wale is a Redskins fan. As much as that bothers me, I still enjoy this tune.

Delta Rae likely the best band you weren’t listening to in 2012…

I genuinely enjoy Pat McGee.

The 15-7-0 is made up of 60% water, 40% leftover turkey and cranberry relish

As always, this week’s 15-7-0 is brought to you by Roofing By Elite. Visit them at roofingbyelite.com. We make 15 observations about football that are ELITE, 7 that are “not so ELITE” and one “zero” who deserves to sleep on the roof from outside of football.

(As a reminder, we don’t do Baltimore Ravens game analysis here. We do PLENTY of that elsewhere. This is about the rest of the world of football.)

Here we go.

“The Elite 15″…

1. I have to assume that at this point they don’t need to keep trying to wake up the echoes in South Bend.

Remember when the Trojans were down two scores late and went for it on 4th down anyway? I bet that worked out well…

I can’t tell if Fighting Irish LB (and likely Heisman Trophy finalist) Manti Te’o was excited about the win, though…

Also, what do you think Lane Kiffin was thinking here…

Of course, the Trojans are NEVER losers…

2. Now that Jay Cutler has returned to save the Chicago Bears’ season, we can all get back to talking about how much Jay Cutler sucks.

He’s unlikeable, but he’s a hell of a QB…

Back to that “unlikeable” thing. Ask AJ Jefferson…

J’Marcus Webb might disagree though…

3. Jesus. Weren’t the Bengals just completely dead a couple weeks ago?

Mohamed Sanu had a busy day (on my fantasy football bench)…

Credit to NFL Red Zone’s Scott Hanson-who saw Raiders DL Tommy Kelly in a fight and IMMEDIATELY noticed he was a doppelganger for Suge Knight…

4. There might be a LITTLE bit of drama headed to New York this year, but I’m pretty confident Johnny Manziel has locked up the Heisman Trophy.

His big game Saturday against Missouri happened AFTER Johnny Football overcame this troublesome looking injury…

Manziel will finally speak to the media for the first time Monday. He’ll have to play catch up to the all out blitz the Irish have gone through with Te’o…

5. Now Alabama plays Georgia next week for the right to be favored to win the BCS Championship Game.

Georgia’s Alec Ogletree prepared for the SEC Championship showdown by going all Kurt Angle on Georgia Tech…

Elsewhere in the SEC, I give you Jarvis Landry!

The 15-7-0 has something like a .12 blood pecan pie level

As always, this week’s 15-7-0 is brought to you by Roofing By Elite. Visit them at roofingbyelite.com. We make 15 observations about football that are ELITE, 7 that are “not so ELITE” and one “zero” who deserves to sleep on the roof from outside of football.

(As a reminder, we don’t do Baltimore Ravens game analysis here. We do PLENTY of that elsewhere. This is about the rest of the world of football.)

Here we go.

“The Elite 15″…

1. Stop dancing around it. A freshman who wasn’t in the Top 5 a week ago is now your frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy.

Not a joke. Geno Smith and Matt Barkley have been done for weeks…no one is excited about Collin Klein…and Kenjon Barner played at midnight the other night. Meanwhile Johnny Football was throwing touchdowns even on plays where he fumbled…

Hey Nick Saban-where are you in the polls now???

Elsewhere in the SEC, Auburn fans are looking forward to when coach Gene Chizik gets “Dooley-ed”…

2. So as it turns out, AJ Green was absolutely accurate.

He said he thought the Giants’ defense had some holes. He was right…

And does Eli Manning think he plays for the Jets???

3. Everyone in the Broncos-Panthers game was doing “the Superman”…except Cam Newton.

But you know, no one more than Von Miller…

I mean…why wouldn’t Cam have hit the Superman after this gem?

Remember the time Trindon Holliday scored a touchdown but never actually got the ball in the endzone?

Here’s Von Miller wiggling…

4. At Oregon, the backups to the backups can run 4.4 in the forty and could beat most Pac-12 teams.

Am I supposed to be MF-ing the guy in this circle wearing black and white, too?

Elsewhere in the Pac-12…Marqise Lee!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux_FdS_ogMw

5. The Texas wishbone-throwback-throw again-whatever else it was play was the absolute best of the weekend.

Darrell Royal doesn’t mean a thing to me, but I do know this is completely freaking kickass…

I’ll go see Eddie K ANY DAY OF THE WEEK…

MIKE NESS MIKE NESS MIKE NESS MIKE NESS MIKE NESS MIKE NESS MIKE NESS MIKE NESS MIKE NESS…

I have to wait until Saturday to see GCJ (in Philly) because I’ll be in Brooklyn Friday night. It’s troubling because I’m not fully certain I can wait ANOTHER DAY.

I’ve put in a good bit of time with ZZ Ward recently. I could put in about six million hours more, too.

9. Doug Stanhope (Saturday 8:30pm Ottobar); Tommy Davidson (Saturday & Sunday Baltimore Comedy Factory); Flip Orley (Wednesday-Sunday DC Improv); Adam Carolla (Thursday 8pm Warner Theater); Bill Engvall (Friday 7:30pm Meyerhoff Symphony Hall); Shaq’s All-Star Comedy Jam (Saturday 8pm Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric); David Alan Grier (Sunday 7:30pm Kennedy Center); “The Muppet Christmas Carol” available on Blu-Ray/DVD (Tuesday), “The Amazing Spider-Man” available on Blu-Ray/DVD (Tuesday); “Skyfall” out in theaters (Friday)

Adam Carolla is funny EVERY FREAKING TIME.

The absolute best thing about The Amazing Spider-Man? Emma flipping Stone.

On Election Day eve, no one is “undecided” about the 15-7-0

Posted on 05 November 2012 by Glenn Clark

As always, this week’s 15-7-0 is brought to you by Roofing By Elite. Visit them at roofingbyelite.com. We make 15 observations about football that are ELITE, 7 that are “not so ELITE” and one “zero” who deserves to sleep on the roof from outside of football.

(As a reminder, we don’t do Baltimore Ravens game analysis here. We do PLENTY of that elsewhere. This is about the rest of the world of football.)

Here we go.

“The ELITE 15″…

1. There’s college football…and then there’s Alabama.

I guess things didn’t work out for this guy…

The team may have lost, but this was AWESOME…

Also feeling stupid? LSU QB Zach Metten-Rae-Jepsen…

Let’s check in on a man who is the second best coach in his own division…

Wanna see Kirk Herbstreit play with Lee Corso’s trunk? Of course you do…

Next up for Alabama? Johnny Football…

Elsewhere in the SEC, this.

2. How did I spend my Sunday night? Oh, just watching this postgame video of Chuck Pagano and crying.

Oh man.

Also, these types of throws are making people wil’ out about Andrew Luck. I get it. A quick reminder that Andrew Luck plays indoors. That’s all.

In defeat, Reggie Bush tallied a TD on a play that reminded of a guy who used to play for USC a few years back…

3. The Pittsburgh Steelers just refuse to make things easy on the Ravens…again.

And say whatever you want…this was an incomplete pass.

Also, this shouldn’t have been a flag on Ryan Clark either. I’m not trying to apologize for the Steelers (in fact, I was glad both calls went against them). Had they lost, they would have lost and I would have said they deserved to lose. That’s the way it works in the NFL.

Also-are you a Ravens fan considering voting for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan? This is the man you’d be voting for…

4. Despite what the computers might say, I think we all know Oregon is the 2nd best team in the country.

We’ll get to Collin Klein in a second, but Kenjon Barner PROBABLY moved to second on the Heisman Trophy list (ahead of Manti Te’o) in the Ducks’ win at USC…

The Trojans lost their third game of the season, but it’s hard to blame their quarterback. Unless you’re former USC RB Marc Tyler…

Elsewhere in the Pac-12, UCLA blew out Arizona a week after Arizona ran over USC. But UCLA’s win came with their assistants looking like this…

5. And I think we all know Kansas State is the 3rd best team in the country.

They looked really good against Oklahoma State Saturday night…

Also, here’s this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfmFwIGUEb8

Elsewhere in the Big 12, did this final 2 point conversion in West Virginia-TCU actually happen?

(Since I don’t like WVU…I don’t care if it did or didn’t. I’m just glad they said it did.)
