NORFOLK, Va. — Coppin State freshman Patrick Cole was named to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team as selected by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors and announced by the conference on Sunday.
Cole, who earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors three times this season, was third on the Eagles averaging 10.3 points per game. He was second on the team in assists with 67 and tied for second on the team in steals with 36.
He had an explosive start to his Coppin State career as he poured in 25 points in the season-opener against USC, and had 85 points in his first five games in a CSU uniform.
He scored a season-high 29 points in the Eagles overtime victory at Hampton on Jan. 21.
Deron Powers of Hampton was honored as the MEAC Rookie of the Year. Rashid Gaston of Norfolk State, Bruce Beckford of North Carolina A&T and Darryl Palmer of South Carolina State joined Cole and Powers on the MEAC All-Rookie Team.
Coppin State will open play in the MEAC Tournament on Tuesday (March 12) at 4 p.m. against Bethune-Cookman in the Norfolk Scope Arena.
