COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been to Athlon Sports 2014 preseason All-America team, the publication announced on Monday.
Diggs, who was named a first-team member of Athlon’s All-Big Ten team, earned second team All-American honors as an all-purpose performer.
Last season, Diggs finished second on the team in receptions and receiving yards despite missing the last five games with a leg injury. In seven games, Diggs had 34 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns and averaged 83.9 yards receiving per game.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Wide receiver Stefon Diggs and defensive back William Likely are two of five Maryland football players that earned a spot on Athlon Sports 2014 preseason All-Big Ten team.
Diggs, who received first-team consideration from Phil Steele, and Likely were named to the first team, while kickerBrad Craddock earned second team honors. Linebacker Cole Farrand and defensive end Andre Monroe were selected to the third team.
Diggs is one of two wide receivers to be named to the first team. Last season, he finished second on the team in receptions and receiving yards last season despite missing the last five games with a leg injury. In seven games, Diggs had 34 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns and averaged 83.9 yards receiving per game.
Likely earned first team honors as specialist. The sophomore led the team in kick returns (28) and punt returns (15) in 2013. Likely averaged 12.8 yards per punt return, which ranked 17th nationally, and averaged 26.0 yards per kick return, which was the 23rd-best average in the country.
Craddock earned a spot on the second team after converting 21-of-24 field goals a season ago.
Linebacker Cole Farrand and defensive lineman Andre Monroe were named to the third team. Farrand ranked second on the team in tackles. The senior totaled 84 tackles including 4.5 for a loss. Monroe was a constant presence in the opponent’s backfield last season. Monroe led the team in tackles for loss (17.0) and sacks (9.5).

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland defensive back William Likely has been named to the Athlon Sports Freshman All-America Team, the publication announced on Wednesday. Likely is a third-team selection as a return specialist.
In 12 games, Likely averaged 27.0 yards on 24 kickoff returns, which ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 13th nationally. His kickoff return average is currently the third-highest Maryland single-season total all-time and is just shy of Stefon Diggs’ freshman record (28.52) set last season.
On punts, Likely averaged 12.8 yards per return, which ranks fourth in the ACC and 17th nationally. With one game remaining, Likely currently holds the Maryland freshman record previously held by Orlando Strozier (10.46 ypr) set in 1993.
The Belle Glade, Fla., native also returned one punt for a touchdown this season coming against Virginia Tech. Likely returned the kick 63 yards against the Hokies for the first score of his career. On the day, Likely accounted for all of Maryland’s 106 punt return yards, the third-highest total by a conference team this season.
Likely and the Terps are back in action against Marshall on Fri., Dec. 27 in the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md. Ticket information is available through umterps.com.
