A day after Steelers coach Mike Tomlin described Ben Roethlisberger as “questionable” to play against the Ravens on Sunday night, the Pittsburgh quarterback has officially been ruled out against the Ravens.
As first reported by FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer, the 30-year-old quarterback will not play this week as the Steelers do not want to take any chances with the SC sprain in his right shoulder. Pittsburgh will start veteran backup Byron Leftwich, who hasn’t made an NFL start since 2009. The Steelers announced Wednesday morning that Leftwich would make the start against Baltimore.
Upon replacing Roethlisberger against Kansas City on Monday, Leftwich went 7-for-14 for 73 yards. The 32-year-old had made only five starts in the last five seasons and has a 79.5 career passer rating since entering the league in 2003.
