CYBER DEAL: Buy “Purple Reign 2: Faith, Family & Football – A Baltimore Love Story” for Father’s Day here

Posted on 25 April 2013 by Nestor Aparicio

Thanks for checking our section of purple cyberspace and for having interest in purchasing Purple Reign 2: Faith, Family & Football – A Baltimore Love Story via WNST.net. It’s been a labor of love for me — researching, writing and presenting the building of a NFL championship.

In 2001, I wrote Purple Reign: Diary of a Raven Maniac and I’ve had many inquiries regarding reprinting it and packaging it with the new book on the 2012 Ravens. So, below are the options to purchase both books as well as a 6-CD collection of our best WNST radio interviews with the many stars and interesting people from Super Bowl XXXV and Super Bowl XLVII. It will have original audio from 1990′s with Ray Lewis, Brian Billick, Jon Ogden as well as a two-hour life retrospective when I sat down with Arthur B. Modell in 2004. We’ll also include highlights from the past two years with Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Torrey Smith, John Harbaugh and others. It will be nearly seven hours of conversation with Baltimore Ravens who have hoisted the Lombardi Trophy.

The book is 480 pages, chock full of stories, background, behind-the-scenes information told in 22 chapters from the firing of Brian Billick to the hiring of John Harbaugh to the drafting of Joe Flacco and Ray Rice to the 2012 season and the Super Bowl XLVII win and parade down Pratt Street and celebration inside the stadium back in February.

And the best part of the book or books? They both have happy endings. If you love the Baltimore Ravens, you’ll love the book(s).

It’s the best work of my career and I know once you read it you’ll agree. Virtually every review has been a 5-star compliment since the book was released in June 2013.

Here are two links to excerpts from Purple Reign 2:

This is an excerpt from Chapter 6 of Purple Reign 2: Faith, Family & Football – A Baltimore Love Story.

And here’s another from Chapter 10 involving Joe Flacco and Steve Bisciotti’s cash showdown in August 2012.

Hope you’ll join us Tuesday night at Greenmount Station!

Posted on 14 April 2013 by Brian Billick

WNST.net returns to Carroll County this Tuesday night, April 16th, for a NFL Draft Preview show starring our very own Coach Brian Billick and presented by our friends at Freedmont Mortgage.

The first Super Bowl winning head coach of the Baltimore Ravens and a former Carroll County resident himself, Coach Billick has been studying the NFL Draft for the past few months as he prepares for his NFL Network broadcast duties on Draft weekend. Coach will be ready to answer your questions about Mant’i Teo, Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu, Alec Ogletree, D.J. Fluker, Kevin Minter, Jesse Williams and any other players the Baltimore Ravens may be considering this year.

Coach was in the room when the Ravens selected the likes of Ed Reed, Todd Heap, Jamal Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Ben Grubbs, Haloti Ngata, Chris McAlister, Adalius Thomas, Jarret Johnson, Sam Koch, Marshal Yanda and more. His qualifications are impeccable. (We’re also aware he was in the room when the Ravens selected Kyle Boller, but after Joe Flacco lead the Ravens to another Super Bowl title we’re pretty sure it’s time to forgive that.)

Greenmount Station is located at 1631 N. Main Street in Hampstead and is the home of Carroll County’s best crab cakes. We were blown away by the support of WNST from the Purple Rowdies in Hampstead when we rolled out that way in the fall for our “Thursday Night Live” series with Dennis Pitta and we can’t wait to be back out there. Kickoff time for the taping of the show is 7pm Tuesday night and the show will air later in the week on AM1570 WNST.net. Get there early and grab a great spot, enjoy some great food and have a cold beer, it’s going to be a fun evening.

Coach is always willing to take pictures and sign autographs for fans in attendance, as well as answer that question that’s been bugging you for 10 years. If you want to ask something along the lines of “Coach, did you ever lose the Vince Lombardi Trophy after winning Super Bowl XXXV like the Ravens did after winning Super Bowl XLVII?” he’ll give you an honest answer. (Which we’re pretty sure is “no”, but admittedly not certain.)

It’s our NFL Draft Preview Show with Coach Brian Billick presented by Freedmont Mortgage, taping Tuesday night at 7pm at Greenmount Station in Hampstead. We can’t wait to see you out there.

Your Monday Reality Check-Size Matters And I Won’t Stop Saying It

Posted on 23 April 2012 by Glenn Clark

Remember the guy who scribbled what (at least looking back on it) was nearly a love letter to San Diego Chargers WR Malcom Floyd last summer?

Remember the guy who pounded on the desk for days during his first full week as host of “The Reality Check” on AM1570 WNST.net about how much he wanted to see the Baltimore Ravens add Floyd to their receiving corps for 2011?

Remember the guy who received ridicule for not being excited (and frankly showing a level of discontent) after the Ravens failed to acquire Floyd and instead dealt for Buffalo Bills WR Lee Evans?

The name’s Glenn Clark. It’s good to talk to you again. In case you were wondering, I haven’t stopped bitching about the need for the Ravens to add size to their receiving corps.

After a relatively quiet start to the 2012 NFL Offseason, the Ravens will absolutely add players this week. The Ravens have eight picks in this weekend’s NFL Draft, and will have the opportunity to address both depth and need over the course of the weekend. Fans and analysts have debated the order of the team’s needs, largely agreeing that Offensive Line, Interior Linebacker, Pass Rusher, Running Back, Safety, Wide Receiver and Kick/Punt Returner tend to make up the list.

I don’t particularly care what order the Ravens use to rank their own needs. As we all know, General Manager Ozzie Newsome and company won’t suddenly move away from the “best player available” philosophy that has worked so well for them in recent years.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that at some point during the course of the weekend the team will draft at least one receiver.

My rallying cry will remain the same. When they do, they need to find a receiver who can get up and get the football.

In 2011, six of the top seven total offenses in the National Football League included a significant contributor (either at WR or TE) who stood at least 6’5″ or taller. The other team (the Philadelphia Eagles) had a 6’4″ TE target in Brent Celek.

The Baltimore Ravens have two tight ends (Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson) who are both listed at 6’4″ but who have been unable to establish themselves as legitimate red zone threats at the pro level. This has at least something to do with why the Ravens managed to score TD’s on just 50% of their trips to the red zone in 2011, a mark good enough for only 18th in the NFL.

(The lack of a singular red zone receiving target isn’t necessarily the ONLY reason why the Ravens have struggled to score TD’s in the red zone, but it’s hard to fathom mutual exclusivity here.)
