The Orioles reportedly signed first baseman Chad Tracy to a minor-league deal on Wednesday and created a bit of a stir in the process.
Reports initially said it was 33-year-old major league veteran third baseman Chad Tracy when Baltimore had actually signed the 28-year-old son of former major league manager Jim Tracy to a deal that does not include an invitation to spring training. The better-known Tracy signed a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday.
Tracy has never played in the major leagues and spent the 2013 season split between Triple-A Omaha and the independent York Revolution. He plays first base and left field and has even spent some time catching.
He spent his first six professional seasons in the Rangers organization and has also played in the Colorado and Kansas City systems. He is a career .267 hitter in eight seasons of minor league baseball.
