Morgan K Moller picks up weekly MEAC honor

Howard’s Greg McGhee was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Norfolk State’s Lynden Trail was named Defensive Player of the Week.

N.C. A&T’s Tarik Cohen was named Rookie of the Week, while Howard’s Deonta Allen Wright earned Offensive Lineman of the Week honors.  Morgan State’s Chris Moller and N.C. Central’s Adrian Wilkins earned Co-Special Teams Player of the Week accolades, respectively.

McGhee (QB, 6-3, 208, Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) completed 26-of-37 passes for 326 yards with two touchdowns to lead Howard to a 42-14 victory over Savannah State.  He also rushed 14 times for a career-high 148 yards with another two touchdowns.

Trail (OLG, 6-7, 260, Jr., Miami, Fla.) recorded eight tackles, three solo, with 2.5 for a loss of 16 yards, including 1.5 sacks for an eight-yard loss against Bethune-Cookman.  He also forced two fumbles and broke up one pass as Norfolk State gave B-CU its first conference loss in since 2011, ending an 11-game MEAC win streak.

Cohen (RB, 5-8, 170, Fr., Bunn, N.C.) rushed for 185 yards on 31 carries with one touchdown against Morgan State.  He also caught two passes for 15 yards in the team’s 24-23 loss.

Wright (OG, 6-5, 305, r-So., Midlothian, Va.) anchored Howard’s offensive line that accounted for 559 yards of total offense in a win over Savannah State.  Wright graded out a season-high 98 percent on all blocking assignments that attributed to 223 rushing yards.

Wilkins (RS, 5-8, 170, So., Forest City, N.C.) returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, third of the season and national best, against Hampton.  He finished with 163 all-purpose yards, including 102 kickoff return yards.

Moller (PK, 5-11, 235, Fr., Newport, News, Va.) hit a 27-yard field goal as time expired to give the Bears a 24-23 victory over North Carolina A&T.  He also averaged 59.5 kickoff yards on four attempts in the win.

Cameron Alston (Howard) recorded seven tackles, three solo, with one for a loss of five yards and one recovered fumble against Savannah State.

Bryan Bailey (Hampton) compiled 226 yards on 21-of-31 passes in a win against N.C. Central.

Tyler Clark (NSU) completed 12-of-25 passes for 151 yards with one touchdown against Bethune-Cookman.

Robert Council (MSU) connected on 8-of-17 passes for 122 yards and added 78 rushing yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns against N.C. A&T.

Michael Ducre (FAMU) recorded 11 tackles, six solo, with 0.5 for a loss of 11 yards against S.C. State.

Rolandan Finch (NSU) rushed for 110 yards on 38 attempts with one touchdown in a win over Bethune-Cookman.

Tazmon Foster (NCCU) amassed a game-high 13 tackles (8 solo) with one for a loss of one yard.

Marcus Hampton (Hampton) rushed for a career-high 166 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown in the Pirates’ 29-21 win over N.C. Central.

Nathan Isles (NCAT) recorded five pancake blocks and graded out at 91-percent of his assignments as he led the Aggies offensive line that amassed 452 yards of total offense against Morgan State.

D’Vonte Grant (NCAT) returned an interception back for a 14-yard touchdown and posted nine tackles, five solo, against Morgan State.

Antonio Jefferson (MSU) caught three passes for 67 yards including a 51-yard reception against N.C. A&T.

Carvin Johnson (Hampton) finished with eight tackles, two solo, and one interception in a win against N.C. Central.

Cody Jones (NCAT) was 3-for-3 in field goals and 2-for-2 in PAT attempts in the Aggies loss to Morgan State.

Blake Matthews (NSU) graded out at 90-percent of his assignments as he led the Spartans offensive line to 299 yards of total offense against Bethune-Cookman.

Cameron Marouf (NSU) scored nine points, kicked a career-long 43-yard field goal, and finished 2-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-3 on point after attempts against Bethune-Cookman.

Anthony Philyaw (Howard) rushed for 53 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns against Savannah State.

Joe Thomas (SCSU) tallied 10 tackles, nine solo, with 2.5 for a loss of three yards including 1.5 sacks and one breakup.
