Thursday Morning’s Crabs and Beer

Posted on 05 November 2009 by Glenn Clark

I had the opportunity to go to an advance screening of “The Blind Side” last night at The Charles Theater-thanks to Warner Brothers for the invitation. I have to first say that this movie is going to be absolutely HUGE. It is a perfect Thanksgiving football flick, and as big as it is going to be in Baltimore; it will be big throughout the country as well.

If you’re not familiar-the movie is based on the excellent book of the same name by Michael Lewis. The story chronicles Ravens 1st round pick Michael Oher. The book itself was more about football in general-but the transcendent story of Oher is easily movie-worthy. And while John Lee Hancock’s movie does change certain things about the story (an incident at Ole Miss is moved into Oher’s former home in the Memphis projects; the name of Oher’s Christian school is different, etc.); he does no injustice to the very human aspect of Oher’s journey.

The only shame of the movie is that in trying to keep it a family film-the darkness of Oher’s upbringing is merely referenced, not told vividly. This isn’t to say the movie failed-as the book references that Michael didn’t talk much about his past. The picture painted of Michael’s youth in the book is significantly more frightening than the more family-friendly picture painted by the film.

While the tragedy may not have been fully painted, nothing is taken away from the triumph. I’m going to be honest-if you cry during great sports movies (think “Remember the Titans”); you’re going to cry during this flick. It’s a remarkable story told very well.

The star of the film is clearly Sandra Bullock, whose turn as Leigh Anne Tuohy comes off akin to Julia Roberts’ Erin Brockovich. While this film is more fun and even a bit goofier than the very serious-natured “Brockovich”, your wives and girlfriends will immediately love Bullock’s Tuohy.

It’s not going to win an Academy Award-but it’s not supposed to be that kind of movie. It’s the kind of movie your family can go see at the end of the month when you’re off school/work for 4 days. It’s the kind of movie that you’re going to put on your purple and rally your neighbors to go see. This city is going to LOVE this movie. Whether you’ve read the book or not, you will just eat it up.

Let’s see what everyone else has to say….

Comcast Morning Show Live Blog (10/27/09)

Posted on 27 October 2009 by Jack McManus

9:46-

Jerry Hairston is next up with Drew to talk about the upcoming Series. He talks about how his career had taken some unexpected turns. He talks about how he dreamed of playing in the World Series as a child. He also speaks on Alex Rodriguez. He explains how A-Rod has stepped up this postseason and reversed his usual struggles. Finally, Hairston states the importance of having CC Sabathia start Game 1. He jokes that CC would start every game if he was allowed to.

9:37-

Another caller talks about the Brooks Robinson celebration. He talks about the lack of current Orioles. He also mentions how Peter Angelos did not make an appearance. Drew puts out the idea of having the team pay to bring in some of the current players.

9:16-

Drew pitches his idea for the new Chicago Bears logo to Nestor. (The wind. Remember?) He isn’t a fan of the idea. He and Drew next talk about players who have been “overlooked” and their motivation.

8:59-

A few callers talk about the Brooks Robinson event. They agree that the event went well and was a good celebration. One caller, who states that he is 28 years old, is upset that no current Orioles were present. He would like to be able to identify with players in his generation.

8:37-

Ken Singleton comes on to talk with Drew and Nestor. Singleton currently is an announcer on the YES Network. He talks about the high-priced additions that Yankees made this offseason. Both Mark Teixeira and CC Sabathia have made huge contributions during the postseason. He moves on to how the Yankees will matchup with the Phillies. The Phillies have a very high-powered offense that can keep pace with the Yankees. Singleton next describes the evolution of Pedro Martinez’s game. Now that he can no longer throw has hard, Pedro has changed the way he has pitched.

singleton

8:29-

Nestor is in studio an starts to talk with Drew about the Phillies. Nestor has decided to root for the Yankees in the World Series due to his dislike for the Philadelphia fans. He also talks about the ceremony honoring Brooks Robinson last night. He reveals that no current Orioles were present at the event. He calls this “disgraceful.” He compares this to the Ravens. Ravens players often will show up to charity events in the area.

brooks

8:07-

Patrick Stevens from the Washington Times comes on to talk about the Terps. He starts off by stating that while Chris Turner is not the team’s biggest problem, it may be time to look to the future. He explains that the team should take a look at Jamar Robinson because it is not worth burning a freshman’s redshirt for only a few games. He goes on to talk about the idea that the team just does not have enough talent to compete. This is the simplest explanation, and in this case probably the correct one. Stevens does not believe the team will take any major actions during its bye week, partly because of the injuries to key players.

turner

Moving on to basketball, Stevens says that Gary Williams seems much more excited for this season than he normally does. Stevens states that Maryland could rise to the top of the middle-of-the-pack ACC teams.

vasquez

7:40-

The Comcast Morning Show is starting a contest this morning. Callers are able to call in and be selected for either a player or the outcome of the World Series. If the player wins the MVP Award or the series ends up in that way, the caller will win a “special fall package.”

After Maryland’s Pathetic Loss to Duke, Time For Ralph to Move on From Chris Turner Era

Posted on 24 October 2009 by Glenn Clark

Maryland was pathetic in their 17-13 loss to Duke on Saturday.

The play-calling was pathetic. The play-execution was pathetic. They rotated being pathetic offensively, defensively, and on special teams.

It was an embarrassing loss for a team that has made a season out of embarrassment.

They’re just not good enough.

And with the loss, it is time for Ralph Friedgen to let go of his trust in and respect for Senior QB Chris Turner and begin to look at the future.

Being 2-6 this season (1-3 ACC) is NOT Chris Turner’s fault alone. Moreover, if we were putting together a Drew Forrester “percentage pie” to assign blame for why this team has been so bad this season, Turner would probably get less than half of the pie. Not because he’s been good this season (he hasn’t), but because there are MANY more areas of blame. The defense was bad early in the season. The offensive line has been bad THROUGHOUT the season. Da’Rel Scott and Davin Meggett have been much too “fumble-y” for talented Running Backs.

However, those are areas where the current players NEED to play. The defense is young and has improved vastly. The offensive line is young, and the veterans are actual NFL prospects (Phil Costa and Bruce Campbell). Da’Rel Scott (junior) and Davin Meggett (sophomore) will each be back next season. Quarterback is the only position where this team isn’t building for the future of building a player for his own football future.

Chris Turner is not going to be a professional football player. The next 4 games will not help get him ready for the NFL Draft. They will not make him a better option for the CFL. Chris just isn’t good enough to play professionally. While Ralph Friedgen may feel as though he “owes it” to Chris to continue to play him, it will do nothing for either party other than help the QB’s pride. Chris has carved his place in Maryland’s record books, and he will always be remembered as the quarterback who helped the Terps to some VERY big wins (@Rutgers, Boston College, Cal, North Carolina, etc.). But the Terps don’t need a big game winner anymore. Hopes of an EagleBank Bowl trip have about as much life in them as Y.A. Tittle did on The Comcast Morning Show Friday.

The first question to be asked will be “What do Jamarr Robinson and Danny O’Brien have to gain by facing NC State, Virginia Tech, Florida State and Boston College? The only possible answer is that the quarterbacks will at least have game experience before taking the field in September. One of these guys is going to HAVE to play. This isn’t the same as sticking a QB in to be a sacrificial lamb. One of them HAS to play, and the offensive line will not suddenly be WORLDS better next season. Robinson would presumably be the better choice given the fact that this is his 3rd year in the system, he can’t get a redshirt year, and he is a bit more mobile.

The Terps will play Fork Union in a JV game this week. These games are known as chances for head coaches to learn about what they have for the future. My suggestion is that this coaching staff-which has had no problem going with younger players (like Caleb Porzel) at other positions now add quarterback to the list of positions they take time to evaluate.

————————————————————–

4:36-Scratch that. What a disaster. Duke can run out the rest of the clock after a Tony Logan muff. 17-13 Devils. I’ll put the finishing thoughts on this one in a minute.

4:35-Hey now! A big defensive play! Duke has to punt! Maryland gets one more chance! Good luck Chris!

4:34-Duke faces 3rd and 18 after a holding call. I’m sorry I’m not updating much, I guess I just have a feeling about how this story will end…..

4:28-I just poked over to InsideMDSports.com to see if John Turner had any thoughts on the 4th quarter. Nothing that I’ve seen so far.

I thought we were going to see Jamarr Robinson in this game?

4:24-A first down on a penalty is still a first down.

An interception is NOT a first down. Vincent Ray intercepts Chris Turner, and Duke takes over with 4:09 to play in the game.

Chris Turner is not exactly re-writing his legacy…..

4:19-Great play by Jared Harrell, and Duke forced to punt. Maryland will take over at their own 21. 5:03 to play, I say this is 4 down territory. But few care about what I say.

4:12-Maryland forced to punt, and Duke will take over from their own 40 with under 7 minutes to play in the game. Not sure why Maryland has insisted on trying to run when it has done basically nothing for them.

4:10-Big pass interference call drawn by LaQuan Williams. Maryland gets a first down at the 14. I would probably be throwing more on this drive.

Drew-maybe just react accordingly?

4:06-I can’t tell if it was a fumble or not. I guess they can’t overturn it.

4:03-With under 10 minutes to play, Thad Lewis took off for the goal line-and HUGE DEFENSIVE PLAY! MARYLAND BALL! Wow, I didn’t even see the fumble. What a big play.

3:58-And a great screen play to Jay Hollingsworth. Argh.

3:57-Conner Vernon goes over 100 yards receiving, and Thad Lewis had plenty of time to throw the ball. Frustrating.

3:54-Nice play by Vince Oghobaase to knock down that pass, and Maryland will be forced to punt. Of course…….

3:50-BIG throw by Chris Turner and BIG catch by Adrian Cannon for a first down. Maryland is actually moving the ball….

3:49-And instead of a 10 yard gain for Porzel, the Terps go backwards due to a holding call. 2 plays later, it’s 3rd and long again. Think they have another Davin Meggett screen in them?

3:47-Hey now! A 3 and out from the Maryland defense, and they’ll take over at their own 34. Tony Foster with a nice spceial teams play for Duke.

3:43-Chris Turner now has 6.284 career passing yards. He surpasses Boomer Esiason on the all-time career passing yards list in Maryland history, now 2nd all-time just behind Scott Milanovich. (Thanks ESPN360!) Also, Maryland scored their first TD since the 4th quarter against the Demon Deacons.

3:41-And I spoke too soon. Davin Meggett breaks off a 67 yard TD score on 3rd and long; and they cut the lead to 17-13. Thank God.

3:40-This is not an offense. This is nothing.

3:36-Great catch by Danny Parker on the 2 yard TD pass by Thad Lewis. I have to keep watching because????? 17-6 Duke.

3:29-The 360 guys are pretty certain Conner Vernon pushed off there. Don’t know that it matters.

3:28-At least they’ve been able to get some sacks in recent weeks. There’s a nice one from Ben Pooler.

3:26-Deege Galt is down; but was able to get back up and leave the field under his own power. Maybe just had the wind knocked out of him.

3:23-Big downfield pass from Thad Lewis to Johnny Williams. Would like to see the team wearing white make some nice downfield passes.

3:20-Caleb Porzel is best used in a Ray Rice type of role. James Franklin needs to continue to do a better job of getting Porzel the ball in space. He cannot expect Porzel to be successful with the same plays Da’Rel Scott is successful with.

3:12-Hey, the 2nd half started. That’s neat. Chris Turner was 0/1 in the 2nd quarter. That isn’t good. Porzel 11 rushes for 21 yards? He actually has had some good runs, too. Genyk thinks Tom Brattan was probably pretty angry at halftime. I bet he’s right.

2:47-Snyderwine field goal made it 10-6 Duke. Maryland has to find their way into the end zone at some point.

2:38-It has been a long time since this team has scored a TD. 4th quarter against Wake.

Duke faces 3rd and 5. PLEASE GET THEM OFF THE FIELD!

2:34-Duke with a screen for 35 on 3rd and 5. Do I have to keep doing this?

2:29-Terps again get nothing going and are forced to settle for a 40 yard FG from Ferrara. 7-6 Duke.

2:26-Pass intended for Conner Vernon intercepted by Cam Chism, who I think has shown serious signs of being a future star for this team. If the Devils are going to continue to force the ball through the air, the Terps MUST force turnovers.

2:22-Probably the right decision to have Chris Turner run there, and a GREAT special teams play by Trenton Hughes.

2:21-I’m happy to see Ralph play Porzel, but that doesn’t mean he should ONLY play Porzel, right? Davin Meggett and Morgan Green DID make the trip. Terps face 3rd and 14….

2:20-Bruce Campbell described as “answering the bell.” At least someone is….

2:18-FINALLY a big defensive play, as the Terps recover a fumble and take over at their own 28.

Some solid running from Caleb Porzel thus far. I’ve said before that they need to call him Caleb “Touches” Porzel.

RJ Dill started at Right Tackle today? Maybe Fridge should wander around campus one day looking for a big guy…..

2:16-Can I take this time to remind everyone that they care so much about football in Durham that they actually use Wallace Wade Stadium as a parking lot for Cameron Indoor Stadium?

2:14-Bubble screen to Austin Kelly gets Devils inside the 40 as the 1st quarter comes to a close. It might as well.

2:10-Antwine Perez is going to have to be taken off the field via stretcher. More bad news for Terps’ defense.

2:06-Thaddeus Lewis is a HELL of an athlete. Terps must be careful to not let him get things going on the ground, either.

It’s raining in Durham. I don’t feel bad for anyone there after the nightmare we had at Byrd Stadium last week.

There’s a big throw to Donovan Varner. Of course there is. And Antwine Perez is down. Good news all around.

2:03-Chris Turner can’t find Adrian Cannon in the endzone, and the Terps are forced to settle for a Nick Ferrara field goal to make things 7-3 Duke. Good to see Ferrara make his first kick after missing his last 2 against the Cavaliers in the rain. Ferrara should benefit from having Travis Baltz able to punt again this week, as that should allow him to approve on kickoffs.

2:00-Very successful passing drive here. Completions to Adrian Cannon, Kevin Dorsey, Porzel, and Torrey Smith have the Terps inside the 10. The “Wild Turtle” play by Torrey Smith got nothing.

1:52-Solid defensive play by Adrian Moten, but not a play later Lewis finds Brandon King on a slant, and he takes it in to give Duke an early 7-0 lead. Christ.

1:50-Duke wasn’t afraid to go right back to Donovan Varner, and they have the ball to Maryland’s 30. David Cutcliffe’s Devils aren’t going to be afraid to throw the ball today; so they Maryland defense is going to need to force some turnovers.

1:49-Great play by Cam Chism to force Duke into a 3rd and 7. Donovan Varner must be HURTING.

1:47-The Terps would be more than willing to let Thad Lewis throw the ball into triple coverage all day.

1:45-Some commercials today on ESPN360. Weird.

1:43-Terps have REALLY struggled on 4th down conversions. Porzel (who is SMALL) stopped well short on 4th and 1 by Vincent Ray, and Duke takes over.

1:41-Terps went to Porzel for their first 4 offensive plays of the game, including a 15 yard reception from Chris Turner on 3rd down. Terps worked their way to the Devils’ 40, where Turner’s pass to Ronnie Tyler left them a yard short.

I’d go for it here.

1:39-Don Brown’s defense with a big 3 and out against a fairly powerful Duke offense. Thaddeus Lewis had plenty of time to throw, though.

Nice punt return by Tony Logan, and Caleb Porzel is your first back into the game. The team is playing without both Da’Rel Scott and Gary Douglas. Think Davin Meggett’s fumbles are the reason Ralph Friedgen and James Franklin started the freshman?

1:22-Luke Jones is in College Park today for the Maryland basketball scrimmage, so I am here on my couch to keep you company as the Terrapins battle Duke in Durham. The Terps come into the game 2-5 (1-2 ACC) after back to back losses to Wake Forest and Virginia. The Devils come into the game 3-3 (1-1) ACC off a bye week following a 49-28 win over NC State.

The game can be seen live on ESPN360 with Bob Weekley and Jeff Genyk on the call.

Friday Morning’s Crabs and Beer

Posted on 23 October 2009 by Glenn Clark

Here are your weekend picks….

Maryland 23, Duke 13

I don’t care what Eron Riley (and everyone else) says. Maryland is NOT losing a football game to Duke. They’re NOT. I refuse to believe so.

Wake Forest 28, Navy 17

I think losing Ricky Dobbs REALLY hurts the Mids.

Towson 16, Northeastern 6

The Huskies are TERRIBLE. Rob Ambrose’s bunch can’t lose games that are should-win, since there are only a couple on the schedule.

Morgan State 20, Delaware State 12

The Bears are playing REALLY good football right now.

SOME QUICK THOUGHTS:

-John Turner asked that we not discuss anything further, but here is what I can share with you from him….

“It’s gotten WAY too much attention. It’s a message board. Never meant for it to go to the media.

There have been other threads on the same topic and it was never publicized. I should have kept quiet. It’s embarrassing me and my family.”

I’m not gonna bother to go any farther than this. John needs to know that his public comments on a message board are available for ANYONE to see; but he was right to say he “should have kept quiet.”

-I was talking to a NFC Scout yesterday-who played for 10 years as a defensive player in the NFL. He said this to me about the blame everyone through towards Frank Walker in the 2nd half of the loss to the Vikings….

“Blaming Frank Walker for what happened in that game would be akin to blaming a wide receiver for not catching a football that is thrown 2 feet over his head. In those situations, there is nothing else a cornerback can do. The ball is WAY over his head because a play has broken down due to missed assignments and too much time for a CB to throw the ball.”

Talk to you tomorrow.

9:36-

Sean Salisbury is next up to talk about the NFL. He talks about how the Radiers’ win over the Eagles shows that no NFL is an automatic win. He also talks about the big win the Texans had over the Bengals. The Texans are a team that could make a strong playoff run. Next, Sean explains how the Titans subconsciously gave up during the game on Sunday. Sean states that Josh McDaniels made some great moves this offseason that has allowed the Broncos to be where they are this season. To finish up, Sean picks the Steelers to defeat the Vikings this weekend.

sean

Be sure to follow follow Sean on twitter.

9:14-

Heather Dinich, who covers the ACC for ESPN is the next guest. She starts off by stating the this may be Bobby Bowden’s last season in Tallahassee because many boosters are not pleased with the team’s results. In regards to Maryland, Dinich believes that the team needs to get more young players ready for the future. She also weighs in on the John Turner-Debbie Yow controversy. She states that Debbie Yow has done a great job considering the situation she inherited. She next talks about the rise of the football programs at UNC and Duke. She has picked the Blue Devils to beat the Terps. In regards to James Franklin, Dinich thinks that the “coach-in-waiting” idea does not work for most teams that use it.

8:49-

Amy Fadool from Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia is on to chat with Drew. She talks about how the Phillies were able to play very well in the playoffs, despite some struggles late in the regular season. She next explains how the Phillies are built similar to American League teams. This is partly due to manager Charlie Manuel’s experience in the American League. She also previews the team’s likely upcoming series with the Yankees. She says the New York fans may have an impact on some of the games.

8:26-

Lou calls in with a cheap shot. He calls out baseball players for constantly spitting. This problem is magnified by HDTVs. He says that this has become a part of baseball culture and should be fixed. Another caller takes a cheap shot at John Harbaugh and Ozzie Newsome. He believes that Harbaugh was unfair to Chris McAlister. If McAlisterwas able to get healthy, he could have possibly helped the struggling secondary. Another caller defends Harbaugh’s actions regarding McAlister. He explains that McAlister did not show any respect to the new coaching staff last season. He also points out that no other team has expressed much interest in signing the cornerback.

8:08-

Brian Billick comes on with Drew, as he does each Thursday. Brian states that too much blame is being placed on Defensive Coordinator Gregg Mattison. He explains that Mattison is in a dilemma because of the talent level in the secondary. Brian next talks about how the league is trending toward using big, physical receivers. He also talks about how impressed he was with Joe Flacco’s performance under pressure in the final quarter of the game this past weekend. He next talks about the importance of the bye week. He explains that it is very difficult to make any major changes during only one week. Only minor adjustments are common. In the Ravens’ case, Brian thinks the team should protect more against the big play, even if it means giving up longer sustained drives. The team is currently ranked 26th in the league in giving up big plays.

7:30-

Glenn takes a ”Cheap Shot From the Bleachers” by taking a shot at John Turner. After Turner made this message board post, he made local headlines. When Glenn tried to reach out to Turner and have him on the show this morning to explain his comments he declined. Glenn explains that Turner needs to take responsibility for his comments and not place extra pressure on his son or the Maryland football team.

Wednesday Morning’s Crabs and Beer

Posted on 21 October 2009 by Glenn Clark

I thought John Turner’s decision to blast Debbie Yow was out of line. I think there is CERTAINLY an argument that Maryland might need to consider what the priorities are for the role of Athletic Director now that Debbie has done a great job in getting the department out of serious debt. However, publicly calling for the job of the University’s Athletic Department-especially DURING football season-reeks of someone trying to place blame somewhere BESIDES the football team for being 2-5.

The football team is 2-5. Debbie Yow is the athletic director, Ralph Friedgen is the coach, and Chris Turner is the quarterback. They are all to blame. Chris won’t be back next season. Ralph and Debbie almost certainly will. Each will have questions to answer moving forward.

Comcast Morning Show Live Blog (10/21/09)

Posted on 21 October 2009 by Jack McManus

9:33-

Dean Evason, assistant coach of the Washington Capitals is on to talk some hockey. He begins by talking about the use of Alexander Ovechkin in shootouts. He explains that when a team has the best player in the world, it must use him as much as possible. He next talks about the tough schedule that Caps have faced in the early going.

9:08-

Joe Sheehan from Baseball Prospectus is the next guest. He states that the Angels missed out on an opportunity last night when they faced CC Sabathia on 3 days rest. Sheehan next talks about the defensive performance of Mark Teixeira. He explains that Teixeira had previously played thirdbase before coming to the majors which contributes to his range. He states that Teixeira should be a leading contender for the Gold Glove Award. Moving on to the Angels, Sheehan talks about how the team will try and keep some of its impending free agents. In regards to Chone Figgins, Sheehan does not see the Orioles as a good fit. Sheehan finishes up by talking about the high turnover in managers during the season and how this means that we will not see many moves on that front coming up.

figgins

9:02-

Glenn is on with a Ravens Report. He explains why the team takes days off during the bye week despite the current losing streak. He states that if the coaches scheduled practice each day, they would lose the players. The team instead is able to relax and treat the next ten games as a whole new season. On the injury front, Jared Gaither stated he would definitely play against the Broncos and Kelley Washington would not have any problems due to the concussion he suffered.  Also, Michael Oher will not continue the feud between himself and Jared Allen.

8:31-

Clark Judge from CBS Sports is up with Drew. He attended the Ravens-Vikings game and had this reaction. He starts off by talking about the disappointments that are the San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans. He also talks about how the Broncos have shocked everyone with their undefeated start. He next explains how the Redskins’ Jim Zorn has had his leadership taken away along with his play-calling duties. Judge also describes the risk of starting a rookie quarterback. He thinks that the Jets may have made a mistake by handing Mark Sanchez the starting job.

sanchez

8:21-

Another caller starts to talk about the Raven’s weakness against the pass. He states that since the team seems to have major problems in coverage, the team should instead focus on playing more physically. Yet another caller brings up the play of Ed Reed. He states that while Reed is an excellent player, his risk-taking has hurt the Ravens coverage this season.

reed

8:00-

A caller talks about the struggles of the Ravens defense. He gives each defensive starter, except for Ray Lewis and Jarret Johnson, a failing grade for the season so far. He states that Greg Mattison is too passive to be an effective defensive coordinator in this league.

mattison

7:52-

Glenn and Drew start discussing Maryland Athletic Director Debbie Yow. Chris Turner’s father recently made a message board post titled “Get rid of Yow” on insidemdsports.com. The athletic director must be able to effectively balance making money with putting good teams on the field/court.

7:41-

Next up is the head coach of the Northeastern Huskies, Rocky Hager. He starts off by talking about the challenging schedule his team has faced so far. He next talks about maintaining balance on offense. Injuries to the team’s quarterbacks have caused the team to allow more turnovers than Hager would like. Hager also explains that his team is not as bad as its 0-6 record. He states that his team just needs to be more consistent and put everything together for an entire game. Hager moves on to the competitiveness of the CAA. He believes that the CAA has clearly risen to the top of the conferences in the FCS and can be called the SEC of the lower division.

rocky

7:37-

I’m making my return from swine flu this morning. Rob Ambrose comes on to talk with Drew. He talks about dealing with the tragedy involving the UConn football team. He also talks about facing the winless Northeastern Huskies this weekend.

SOME QUICK THOUGHTS:

-For the record, my question of John Harbaugh at the end of yesterday’s press conference (regarding Greg Mattison) was NOT asked to be an ass-or to put the coach “on the spot.” It was asked because one of the biggest storylines of the last 10 days has been Greg Mattison-with half of the city of Baltimore calling for Mattison’s head. I NEVER want to bring attention to myself during a press conference, I am just there doing a job. I needed a statement on the record from the Head Coach regarding his embattled Defensive Coordinator; and when challenged-I needed to make sure the Head Coach knew I was not going to let him belittle a relevant question. Please stop with your conspiracy “you just hate John Harbaugh” crap. I am a Ravens fan. I care about one thing, and one thing only. I want the Ravens to win. Other than that, I have a job to do as the Ravens analyst here at WNST.net.

Talk to you later today from 1 Winning Drive.

Ravens on Tuesday-our “Tuesday Top 7″. In the meantime…..

You deserve props…..

1-Matt Schaub, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees and Tom Brady

It was a hell of a weekend to be a quarterback. Well, it was a hell of a weekend to be MOST quarterbacks. I’m pretty sure the weekend still wasn’t good for THIS particular quarterback…..

boller

You know what, I take it back. Kyle B looks like that…..and I look like this…….

me

So……which one of us do you THINK had a better weekend……

2-Cliff Lee and Jerry Hairston Jr.

This one’s on Forrester.

Much like the way he will NEVER be invited back to my house to watch a Ravens game (he said “The Ravens are gonna win this one” 12 times in the 4th quarter in true Forrester Curse fashion); I think we’re really gonna have to think about who we invite on The Comcast Morning Show in the future.

Consider the fact that Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe caught TWO TD PASSES Sunday against the Ravens after an appearance on the show Thursday…..AND the fact that Jerry Hairston Jr.-who had NEVER had a playoff at-bat before Saturday-SCORED THE WINNING RUN for the Yankees to beat the Angels!

And with that, I’d like to take this time to annouce that THIS MAN is permanently banned from The Comcast Morning Show in the future…..

hines

Screw you, Hines Ward.

3-Alex Ovechkin

I’m no Capitals fan, but I’ll contend that The Great 8 is the best athlete to come from Eastern Europe since Alona Bondarenko…..

bondarenko

Strike that. Alona Bondarenko is better than Alex Ovechkin. Sorry Caps fans.

4-Tim Tebow, Mark Ingram, Josh Nesbitt and Matt Barkley

An old radio friend of mine had a funny Facebook status Saturday night….

Chad Dukes thinks that slut Erin Andrews should be banned from the sidelines after her sextape.”

Genius. She really should, too. Does she think we’re not thinking about that when we see her on the sidelines? Speaking of which, you know who else I’d like to see make a sex tape? The chick who plays “Pam” on “The Office”…..

fischer

Wait…..the Raiders’ pigeon?

Strongest effort by a Bird in a sporting event since……

6-Blake Griffin

I have a friend who graduated from the University of Oklahoma, so this was a tough weekend for her. Her quarterback got hurt again, her backup couldn’t figure out a way to beat their archrival, and the Sooners are just 2 games better than the WOEFUL Maryland Terrapins. On top of that, their mascot is a FRAUD……

fraud

…..and their most distinguished alumni is best known for the phrase “slobberknocker”…….

jimross

……so I figured I’d lift her spirits by noting that Blake Griffin had 13 points and 12 boards in a practice NBA game. So……everything’s cool now, right?

7-Sean Mosley

Midnight Madness should be at midnight, damnit. I don’t want to harp on this, but if Midnight Madness had been at midnight, I could have gone after checking out AC/DC at the Verizon Center Friday night. Instead, THIS was the most exciting thing happening in College Park Friday night…..

makingout

Wait…..I changed my mind…….this is just fine……do that basketball thing whenever you want…..who the hell is Sean Mosley? My neck hurts.

8-Cory Ross

And I don’t mean to pile on here, but Graham Gano already has a 53 yard field goal on the season for the UFL Las Vegas Locomotives……if you know where I’m going…..

Cory Ross, huh? Remember when Cory Ross started a game accidentally in Baltimore and gauged the Steelers? You know, right before Brian Billick got fired? Oh, memories…..

Apparently not everyone is off to a great start on the UFL season though….

Hang in there, Anita. You’ll get ‘em next time…..

9-Vince Murray and Pat Devlin

Tough homecoming for Towson against Delaware Saturday, of course-not quite as difficult as Homecoming was at Byrd Stadium; where I’m reasonably certain I was the only person who came home.

George W. Bush was at the Navy-SMU game Saturday in Dallas. It was somewhat strange when he opened the game by welcoming all of the Sooners and Longhorns fans to the Cotton Bowl for the Red River Rivalry.

Are “George W. Bush is stupid” jokes still funny, or are we all supposed to go with the more popular “Barack Obama hasn’t done anything” fare?

Eff it, to quote Frank Caliendo….”I miss the little guy.” He wasn’t much of a President, but DAMN if he wasn’t entertaining…..

10-Nikk Davis and Joe Cummings

I will FREELY admit that I was the only person who gave even HALF a crap about what was going on in the world of lacrosse this weekend. Then again, I knew if I hung out around a lacrosse game, I’d find someone who knew where I could find the new John Mayer tune. I was right!

11-Duke Basketball

I can’t believe I’m saying this. Jesus, I might break out in a cold sweat. But in an era when no one can afford to spend money on their basketball program, it’s kinda cool that you were able to do this…….

duke

Okay, I hope Coach K and the Blue Devils get their ASS KICKED every game. And…..there’s nothing about this picture that makes me concerned whatsoever. BUT…..it’s cool. NCAA Basketball teams are cutting spending, and they tread lightly when it comes to doing cool stuff. I have to give props…..and it is REALLY uncomfortable to do so.

12-Canada

A lot of people are going to dog the people up in Vancouver for their strangely shaped Olympic medals, but do not count me amongst that group. I think the Canadians have actually put together a hip looking medal…

medal

I mean, they’re oddly shaped and all, but they’re mostly cooler than anything else that’s come from Canada….except for the one time Avril Lavigne decided to start working at Hooters……

hooters

13-Jim Nantz

Maybe the nicest guy on the face of the freaking planet. He saw his wife crying in divorce court and gave her a hug. Holy freaking crap. There are women that I have no reason to have ill will towards and I would LAUGH if I saw them crying. Then again, I might be the worst human being on the face of the planet. Also, Nantz has a new commercial with Peyton Manning out…..where he shoots a football with a bow and arrow. Anyone have video of that????

For the record, Drew Forrester hasn’t put pants on since this particular moment……

14-Chick-Fil-A Chicken Salad Sandwiches and Sweet Tea

chicktea

Ask me which I’d rather have. A night with Marisa Miller or the meal above………

Go ahead…….

That’s what I thought. Marisa Miller will still be there when I’m ready…..

15-Angus Young

So…….this show was EXACTLY as good as I had hoped it would be……..

And this song is EXACTLY as kick-ass live as I imagined……

AND…..I TOTALLY didn’t come away from the show worshiping Satan (that I know of), so this is all a win-win!

You got lucky……

1-Colt McCoy and Shrimp Vindaloo

In Rick Reilly’s column previewing Oklahoma-Texas last week, he described McCoy’s girlfriend Rachel Glandorf as “hotter than shrimp vindaloo.”

The interesting part for me is that the first thing I Google image searched was…….

shrimp

And then the NEXT thing I Google image searched was…..

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_CezbgHDlN3A/STWFdiwgB-I/AAAAAAAADRw/Pu9PxXtyhLg/s400/rachel-glandorf-2.jpg

It really has never been a bigger weekend for shrimp vindaloo than this one. Frankly, this might be a peak for shrimp vindaloo. I somehow doubt it gets much better than this. I know Rick Reilly looked at Rachel Glandorf favorably, but when else will shrimp vindaloo get this much attention???

Oh, and Texas beat Oklahoma to keep their BCS National Championship dreams very much alive. Which is neat, if you’re into that sort of thing……

2-Danny O’Brien

And by “lucky”, I mean, you better get ready to play. Chris Turner-I love you. You helped this team to some big wins (@Rutgers, vs. Boston College, vs. Cal, vs. North Carolina), but there’s just no reason for you to be in there anymore. I know you’ll still play, but Ralph is gonna have to look at Jamarr Robinson and Danny. Danny is the most likely candidate to be the guy next season, so I guess he’ll be the real go-to guy.

We’ll always have the memories…….

3-Sunderland

This didn’t REALLY happen, did it????

Oh holy crap, it did. Liverpool must be PISSED! In fact, I heard a rumor that the kid who threw the ball on the field was receiving death threats from Liverpool fans until he said “Hey look over there”……..at which point Liverpool fans took their anger out on a poster of this…..

yoko

Don’t blame them. I want to take my anger out on that image, too.

Also, was that humor too smart for this blog? I feel as though it may have been. Therefore, boobs.

4-Jimmie Johnson and Martin Laird

Not really as much because their accomplishments were lucky, more because they are lucky that ANYONE noticed. For example, my friend told me she had to work yesterday-to which I responded “Are the people at your work aware that the NFL did NOT decide to cancel games this season?”

That being said, Laird is reportedly a golfer on the PGA Tour. He won the Justin Timberlake Open in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake won this Sunday wherever the hell he felt like it…..

biel

5-Rian Lindell

It is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE for a kicker to miss a kick from the mid-40 yard range to win a football game. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! No other kicker in the NFL could POSSIBLY do that!

Anyhoo, Rian Lindell got a 2nd chance and made it count Sunday, which is more than can be said about my 2nd-12th chances with the law……..

Also, remember when Mark Sanchez was the next Joe Flacco? Fellow former USC QB Matt Leinart has some career advice if things don’t turn around….

matty

6-Megan Fox

So, apparently she won some sort of award from Spike TV AND pulled down a big endorsement deal for Armani underwear this weekend, too. Which made me think, does anyone really wanna see Megan Fox in her underwear???

fox

Seriously…..no thanks. I mean, if that’s what you’re into and all, good for you. But some of us have standards, and this frankly just isn’t good enough. But for those of you who don’t really care about looks, I guess this will be something you’ll be into.

7-People who don’t live in Maryland in October

My Saturday looked a lot like this……

rain

Which I guess beats waking up and seeing this……..

snow

I’m going back to Arizona. Eff this. I love you guys, I love my family; but I think I have the flu again after like a day. this place SUCKS. WHAT THE EFF IS SNOW IN OCTOBER ALL ABOUT?!?!?! 66 degrees on Tuesday? The weather here is about as rational as my girl after 2 beers……….

“I think we should go skiing……in the air!!!!!!!!”

You’re a zero…..

Everyone who is angry about Richard and Mayumi Heene

Seriously, there are other things to worry about in the world. For example, there are rumors that this lady……

dita

had a sultry lesbian photoshoot with another model where they were each in their underwear. And yet, NO PICTURES TO BE FOUND YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friends, our nation is in crisis. Please, someone help me solve this problem……

Flexing my mic muscles since 1983……
