Brito, Laster To Participate In Collegiate Summer Tour
BALTIMORE – A pair of Loyola University Maryland men’s basketball players will participate in a collegiate summer tour next month and will each be on teams that will play five games against European club sides.
Redshirt junior Denzel Brito (Wareham, Mass./Lawrence Academy/Loyola Chicago) and sophomore Eric Laster (Smyrna, Del./Polytechnic H.S.) will compete on teams that will visit Belgium, England and The Netherlands in August.
The tour will visit, and play games in, Brussels, Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp, Belgium, London, England and Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Brito sat out the 2012-2013 season while fulfilling NCAA year-in-residency requirements after transferring from fellow Jesuit school Loyola University Chicago. He will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Greyhounds, beginning this fall.
With the Ramblers, Brito played in 30 games and started 21 as a sophomore in 2011-2012. He led Loyola Chicago in assists (3.5/game) while chipping in 7.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game and scoring in double-figures 12 times.
Laster was a member of the Greyhounds’ backcourt rotation as a freshman last season, logging time in 27 contests. He played a season-high 21 minutes in Loyola’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over Saint Peter’s University at the IZOD Center, grabbing four rebounds against the Peacocks.
As a true freshman, Laster scored a career-high six points on 3-of-4 from the field in January against Canisius College. He also had two assists and a basket the month prior at the University of Memphis.
Brito and Laster will be playing on teams with players from, among other schools: Northwestern University, Purdue University, Kansas State Unviersity, Marquette University, Villanova University, Providence College, Indiana State Unviersity, the University of Evansville and fellow Patriot League school Colgate University.
Last season, Loyola teammates Jordan Latham and R.J. Williams took part on a similar trip.
