TOWSON, Md. - The Tigers conducted their 14th practice session of the pre-season on Tuesday afternoon and the team’s cornerbacks continued their impressive work.
When asked about the team’s cornerbacks, Cornerbacks Coach Derrick Johnson gets a smile on his face. He says, “Well, we have two cornerbacks who earned All-CAA honors last year and they were both named to the Pre-Season All-CAA team. That’s enough to make any coach smile.”
Junior Tye Smith and senior Jordan Love return as the team’s cornerbacks. A third team All-CAA pick last year, Smith led the team in tackles.
“Tye has been great during the pre-season,” says Coach Johnson. “He has been working very hard and has taken on a leadership role.”
Coach Johnson has also been impressed with sophomore Donnell Lewis, who has seen a lot of playing time because Love has been sidelined.
“Donnell has done some good things,” says Coach Johnson. “He has really stepped up.”
Senior Ryan Mays also returns, along with red-shirt Juleon Killikelly-Lee.
“We are very fortunate to have so many players who have good instincts,” says Johnson. “I really like out depth.”
The Tigers will practice twice on Wednesday.
