Posted on 18 November 2013 by WNST Staff

RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 18, 2013) – CAA Football’s Player of the Week honorees for the twelfth week of the 2013 season were announced on Monday. A link to each school’s release will be added to the player’s name over the course of the day as releases become available.

Offensive Player of the Week: Michael Strauss, Jr., QB, Richmond
Strauss earns his second-consecutive honor on the heels of another historic day that was highlighted by his game-winning touchdown pass with seven seconds remaining to complete Richmond’s 46-43 come-from-behind road win over Delaware. The junior finished the game 35-of-46 for a school-record 543 yards and five touchdown passes, a single-game program mark that he has now matched in two straight weeks. Strauss, whose 543 passing yards also represents a single-game school record, now owns or has equaled every single-game and single-season passing record at Richmond.

Defensive Player of the Week: Donnell Lewis, Soph., DB, Towson
Lewis turned in a career-high 10 tackles, including seven solo, to lead Towson to its 10th-straight road win, 15-9, over William & Mary. The sophomore also recorded his third interception of the season, representing a key fourth-quarter play for a Tiger defense that stopped three W&M fourth-down attempts and shut out the Tribe in the second half.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Sean Decloux, Soph., K, Maine
Decloux continued his solid sophomore season with another strong kicking effort as Maine locked up its first league title since 2002 with a 41-0 win over Rhode Island on Saturday. CAA Football’s highest-scoring kicker, Decloux finished the day 2-for-2 on field goals to tie the program single-season record of 13 and also converted all five of his PATs.

Rookie of the Week: Dalton Crossan, R-Fr., KR/RB, New Hampshire
Crossan receives his second rookie nod of the season following his two-touchdown effort as New Hampshire rolled to its fifth win in six weeks, 37-20, on the road over UAlbany. After rushing for a 51-yard score on his only carry of the game in the second quarter, the redshirt freshman would follow that up with a 93-yard kick return for a touchdown with 8:04 remaining to put the Wildcats up 34-20. Crossan’s first career kick return for a score was part of his 185 all-purpose yard performance.

DONNELL LEWIS NAMED AS CAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lewis Led Tigers To 44-17 Win Over Albany

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore defensive back Donnell Lewis (Woodside H.S./Virginia Beach, Va.) of Towson University has  been named as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Tigers’ 44-17 victory over Albany, it has been announced by CAA officials.

Lewis is the second Tiger to be named as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week this season. Two weeks ago, senior linebacker Telvion Clark (Granby H.S./Norfolk, Va.) was honored after the Tigers’ victory over New Hampshire.

In the Tigers’ victory over Albany, Lewis led the Tigers’ defensive effort. He made seven tackles, including two for lost yardage. He also broke up a pass and made one of the biggest plays of the game.

With 8:48 left in the second quarter, Lewis intercepted a pass at the Albany 38-yard line. He avoided a number of Great Danes and ran down the far sideline to score a touchdown. His touchdown gave the Tigers a 17-7 lead that they extended to 24-7 a few minutes later.

It was Lewis’ first interception of the season. However, it was his second touchdown of the season on a return. In the Tigers’ 35-21 victory at Stony Brook in September, Lewis recovered a fumble and returned it 43 yards for a touchdown that clinched the Tigers’ win.

A versatile defensive back who has seen action at safety and cornerback, Lewis has started five of eight games for the Tigers. He is tied for fourth on the team with 43 tackles and has broken up six passes. He is also tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles and has two fumble recoveries.

Lewis ranks fifth in the CAA in pass breakups and is tied for the CAA lead with two fumble recoveries.

The Tigers, who are 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the CAA, return to action on Saturday when they travel to Richmond to face the Spiders in a CAA game at 12 noon. The game will be televised on Comcast Sports Mid-Atlantic.

To date, Towson has had three CAA Offensive Player of the Week award winners and two CAA Defensive Player of the Week winners. The Tigers have also had one CAA Rookie of the Week and one CAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
