BARR, DAVIS, GADDIS, PIKE, SHAW NAMED AS TIGER CO-CAPTAINS
Three Offensive Linemen Highlight Tiger Captains
TOWSON, Md. – Seniors Anthony Davis (Clover Hill H.S./Richmond, Va.), Monte Gaddis (Cleveland Central H.S./Cleveland, Ohio), Eric Pike (DuVal H.S./Landover, Md.) and Doug Shaw (Loyola Blakefield H.S./Woodbine, Md.) join sophomore Bryton Barr (Mechanicsburg Area H.S./Camp Hill, Pa.) as the captains of the 2013 Towson University football team, it has been announced by Coach Rob Ambrose.
For Pike and Shaw, this marks their second season as Tiger co-captains. Pike was one of the Tiger co-captains in 2011 while Shaw was a co-captain last season.
A two-year starter at left guard for the Tigers, Davis is a 6-3, 300-pound veteran. In his career, he has also seen playing time at offensive center. He has appeared in 29 games in his career with 20 starts.
A second-year starter at inside linebacker, Gaddis was named to the 2013 Pre-Season All-Colonial Athletic Association team. As a junior, he earned second team All-CAA notice when he made 74 tackles in 10 games. A second team All-American selection by College Sports Madness, Gaddis led the Tigers with 12 tackles for lost yardage. He also tied for the team lead with five quarterback sacks.
A starter at left tackle in all 34 games of his career, the 6-5, 298-pound Pike earned All-CAA first team honors as junior and third team notice as a sophomore. One of the top tackles ever to play for Towson, Pike was named to the 2013 Pre-Season All-American second team by The Sports Network.
Shaw, who was one of the Tiger co-captains last season along with Grant Enders and Jordan Dangerfield, is a two-year starter at center. A 6-1, 265-pound lineman, he was named second team All-CAA in 2012. Shaw has started 28 of the Tigers’ last 29 games.
Only the second sophomore ever to be named as a Tiger co-captain, Barr had a remarkable season for the Tigers as a first-year freshman. A 6-0, 220-pound outside linebacker, he started all 11 games and finished second on the team with 74 tackles. He also had five tackles for lost yardage and recorded two sacks. Barr led the Tigers with two fumble recoveries.
The Tigers, who have won back-to-back CAA championships, open their season at the University of Connecticut onThursday, August 29 at 7:30 p.m.
