Towson RB West wins major FCS award

TERRANCE WEST EARNS FIRST FCS ADA RUNNING BACK OF THE YEAR AWARD

West Leads College Football In Rushing Yards and Touchdowns

TOWSON, Md. – Junior running back Terrance West (Northwestern H.S./Baltimore, Md.) of Towson University was named as the winner of the first Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Running Back of the Year award.

In coordination with the 13 FCS conference offices, the FCS ADA is recognizing the top student-athletes from its institutions at 11 different positions with the FCS ADA All-America Award. The inaugural class includes student-athletes from nine different institutions, representing five different conferences. Voting was conducted by a national panel, consisting of media and SIDs.

West, who leads all of college football with 2,295 rushing yards, has led Towson to a 12-2 record and a berth in the NCAA FCS semi-finals. The Tigers will face Eastern Washington in the national semi-finals on Saturdayafternoon.

A three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association first team selection, West also leads all college football players with 39 touchdowns and he has tied the NCAA FCS record set by Omar Cuff of Delaware in 2007. In his career, he has scored 83 touchdowns, six shy of the NCAA FCS record set by Brian Westbrook of Villanova.

As a freshman, West was named as the winner of the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in FCS football.

The 2013 CAA Football Offensive Player of the Year, West was named as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week four times.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo of Eastern Illinois, lineman Billy Turner of North Dakota State, tight end MyCole Pruitt of Southern Illinois, wide receiver Erik Lora of Eastern Illinois, defensive lineman Brad Daly of Montana State, linebacker Stephon Robertson of James Madison, defensive back Daniel Fitzpatrick of Tennessee State University, place kicker Seth Sebastian of Southeastern Louisiana, punter Kyle Loomis of Portland State and return specialist Xavier Roberson of Southeastern Louisiana were also honored.
