ZOPPO AND TEAM USA OFF TO A 2-1 START AT FIL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Towson midfielder and Team USA Captain has netted a goal and dished out an assist

TURKU, Finland – Towson University midfielder Robby Zoppo, a captain of the United States Men’s National Under-19 Team, has scored a goal and dished out an assist as Team USA is off to a 2-1 start at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships in Turku, Finland.

Team USA started pool play with a 24-6 win over Australia on July 13. Zoppo posted a goal and an assist in the victory.

Team USA was upset though on the second day of the tournament, falling to Canada, 11-9 in overtime. Canada became the first team to defeat the U.S. in U19 international play since sanction competition began in 1988. The U.S., which has won all six gold medals contested, is now 38-1 all-time.

Zoppo and Team USA did bounce back on Sunday though, cruising past England, 20-1, in its third pool play game. The team will have its first day off on Monday before facing the Iroquois at 1 p.m. local time and 6 a.m. in Turku on Tuesday. It will be the final pool play game of the competition.
