Glyndon, MD – Sagamore Racing’s three-year-old filly Millionreasonswhy (Grand Slam – Secure by A.P. Indy) passed away suddenly this morning after an unfortunate training accident at Sagamore Farm. During a routine workout, she crashed through a rail on the 3/4-mile training track and died instantly of internal injuries.

Trained by Ignacio Correas, IV, Millionreasonswhy had a brilliant racing career finishing in the top 3 in each of her six starts. Notable wins include the Grade II Matron Stakes at Belmont Park on July 3, 2011 and the Wide Country Stakes at Laurel Park on March 3, 2012. In her last race, she placed second in the Ms. Preakness Stakes on May 18, 2012 at Pimlico. Millionreasonswhy had a career record of 3-2-1 compiling $223,340 in total earnings.

“This is a very emotional day for our team,” said Sagamore Racing general manager, Tom Mullikin. “Millionreasonswhy was a classy and tough filly that had not yet reached her full potential. She was also a very sweet horse that was always a pleasure to be around. I want to thank Ignacio, Bob Feld and our entire team who cared for Millionreasonswhy. We also want to thank Millionreasonswhy’s fans and supporters of Sagamore Racing. We will miss her dearly.”

Millionreasonswhy will be laid to rest in the Sagamore Farm cemetery alongside Hall of Fame horses Native Dancer, Discovery and Bed O’ Roses. Keeping with tradition of the Farm, she will be buried whole with her blanket, halter and a basket of treats.
