BALTIMORE, Md. — After taking a punt back for a touchdown at Howard, Morgan State senior Broderick Gager has been named National Punt Returner of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards. Teammate Nathan Ingram also collected honorable mention accolade for the week in the tight end category.
Gager took a Howard punt back 89 yards for the Bears’ first touchdown of the afternoon. The punt return was Morgan State’s first for a score since Larry Dixon returned a punt 18 yards for a touchdown against North Carolina A&T in Oct. 9, 2004.
The Williamsburg, Va. native has returned five punts for a 21.2 per attempt average through the last four games. He was moved to punt returner during the Norfolk State game on Sept. 28th this season, adding 80 yards receiving on six catches.
Gager is Morgan State’s second player to earn the CFPA’s weekly National Performer of the Week award this season. Gager’s teammate Lawrence Forbes has been named twice as National Punter of the Week.
Ingram was named to the honorable mention list for tight end of the week after leading the Bears receivers with four catches for 41 yards. It was the second time this season that Ingram has been selected as an honorable mention.
Morgan State returns home this weekend, hosting Hampton at 1 p.m. at Hughes Stadium.
