TOWSON, Md. – With only two more weeks of preparation before the season opener at Connecticut, the Tigers conducted another two-a-day session on Wednesday.

After a session on the lower field, the Tigers returned to Unitas Stadium for the afternoon workout.

Tyler Bowen is one of the newest members of the Tiger coaching staff. He is working with the team’s tight ends and he feels he is fortunate to have a talented group.

“This is a very good group,” he says. “Everyone is working hard and they’re trying to get better. We’ve been making a lot of progress.”

The Tigers have four tight ends on the roster. In addition to senior James Oboh, sophomore Sean Mooney and red-shirt freshman Tanner Vallely, the Tigers have benefitted from the addition of graduate student Will Fleming, a transfer from the University of Akron.

Oboh has been the Tigers’ starter at tight end the last two seasons and has caught 29 passes for 478 yards and six touchdowns. According to Bowen, “James has been very solid during our pre-season. He is working hard and learning a lot of the little things that can make him be an even better tight end.”

A transfer from Akron, Fleming was a three-year performer at tight end for the Zips. Bowen says, “Will is a very nice addition for us. He played in a similar offense at Akron so he has been able to catch on. He could really help.”

Mooney and Vallely bring size to the tight end position. Mooney is a 6-6, 230-pound sophomore with plenty of potential. A native of Germantown, Md., Vallely stands at 6-6, 250-pounds.

“This could be a very group,” says Bowen. “They have the ability to make an impact this season.”

The Tigers return to the practice field on Thursday afternoon.
