Towson standout set to compete in front of NBA and international team executives
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Towson senior Jerrelle Benimon has been invited to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT), which runs from April 16-19 and is held at the Churchland High School Sports Complex in Portsmouth, Va.
The PIT invites the top seniors from across the country to participate in a four-day, 12-game tournament in front of NBA and international team executives.
Benimon has been assigned to the Portsmouth Sports Club team along with Dalton Pepper of Temple, Garrick Sherman of Notre Dame, Roberto Nelson of Oregon State, Justin Jackson of Cincinnati, Devon Saddler of Delaware, Z. Mason of Tennessee-Chattanooga and Langston Hall of Mercer.
“It’s an honor to be picked for this event,” said Benimon. “Looking through each team’s roster and knowing that I’m going to be competing against the top seniors in the country is really exciting. I’ve been working out hard since the end of the season and I’m excited to get back onto the court and play.”
Benimon, who was recently named Most Valuable Player of the Reese’s College All-Star Game at the Final Four, is coming off one of the best individual seasons in Towson history. The two-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year led the Tigers in scoring (18.7 ppg), rebounding (11.2 rpg) and assists (3.6 apg).
An NABC All-District 10 first-team honoree, Benimon guided Towson to a Division I school-record 25 wins during the 2013-14 season, including a pair of victories in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The forward ranked second in the NCAA in rebounding and third in double-doubles (21).
