Blast finish regular season title with blowout victory

BLAST WIN MISL REGULAR SEASON TITLE

Blast Defeat Pennsylvania 18-2 to End Regular Season

The Baltimore Blast traveled to Pennsylvania this afternoon to play the Roar for the sixth time this season. After tonight’s 18-2 win, the Blast now have a 6-0 record against the team. The win tonight brought the Blast to a 17-3 record for the regular season and have clinched the number one seed for the MISL playoffs.

The first quarter was a low scoring start to the game. Max Ferdinand got the Blast on the board first off an assist from Drew Yates at 12:15 on the clock. Ferdinand was able to net another goal before the end of the period giving the Blast an early lead.

Pat Healey scored first in the second quarter at the 8:30 mark. This was Healey’s sixth goal of the season. Adriano Dos Santos followed with a goal off an assist from Mike Lookingland at 8:00 in the quarter. The Blast went into the half up 8-0.

The second half picked up for the Blast when Aduato Neto assisted Lucio Gonzaga for the teams 5th goal of the night. At the 9:03 mark in the quarter Adriano Dos Santos extended the Blast lead with a goal. Chris Williams was able to put the Roar on the scoreboard at 7:57. Tony Donatelli quickly answered for the Blast with a goal of his own. Max Ferdinand assisted Aduato Neto with 2:57 left in the quarter and Diego Zuniga scored to cap off the 10-point quarter for the Blast.

The Blast had held on to their lead into the 4th quarter and remained into control. No goals were scored in the quarter. At the final buzzer, the Blast had won 18-2.

The Blast played a strong game tonight on the road and their away record was improved to 8-2. Offensively, Max Ferdinand and Adriano Dos Santos led the Blast with 2 goals each. Defensively goalkeeper William Vanzela recorded 17 saves in the victory.

Baltimore Blast: 16-3 after last week’s win against Rochester

Pennsylvania Roar: 1-18 after last week’s loss against the Syracuse

Mike Lookingland leads the Blast in points (54) and blocks (33). Lookingland is also ranked 6th in the league in points and 1st in blocks. Tony Donatelli is right behind him at 9th in the league with 46 points. In addition to Lookingland and Donatelli, 2 more Blast players are in the top 25 in points in the league; Max Ferdinand (38), and Lucas Roque (35).

 

2/23 Rochester Game Recap:

Lucas Roque led the Blast offensively with six points while Adriano Dos Santos and Mike Lookingland also added 4 points each. Defense played an excellent game only allowing 5 points and Troy Hernandez recorded 13 saves. Tony Donatelli and Troy Hernandez both received MISL Player of the Week accolades for their success in last weekend’s matches.

 

Defense Wins Games:

The Blast lead the league in points against with only 99 on the season. Lookingland is first in the league with 33 blocks and Pat Healey is tied for second with 29. With strong defense and William Vanzela in goal, the Blast are able to hold opponents to very few scoring chances. Blast goalkeeper William Vanzela is 11-3 on the year. He is first in the league in points against average (5.54) and first in the league in save percentage (.831). 

 

 

Battle for First:

The Baltimore Blast are currently sitting in first place of the MISL. They lead Milwaukee by a half game and look to close out the season with a victory to gain the top playoff seed.  Milwaukee finishes up their season with two home games on Saturday against the St. Louis Ambush and Sunday against the Missouri Comets.

 

The Competition:

The Pennsylvania Roar are 1-18 on the season and are looking to play as a spoiler in the playoff standings. Offensively, Corey Maret leads the team with 22 points while goalie Peter Pappas comes into the matchup with a .688 save percentage.  The Roar are coached by Eric Puls and Todd Hoffard.

Blast improve to 14-3 with win over Roar

BLAST DEFEATS ROAR ON FRIDAY NIGHT

 

The Pennsylvania Roar visited Baltimore, Friday February 21st for the team’s fifth matchup of the season. The Blast improved their record to 14-3 with a 23-6 win against the Roar.

 

After a scoreless first quarter, Lucas Roque, from the Baltimore Blast, scored a three point goal 3:58 into the game to give the Blast a 3-0 lead. Mike Lookingland assisted Tony Donatelli for the second Blast goal. At half time, the Blast were ahead 5-0.

 

Blast’s Adauto Neto scored the first goal in the third quarter, assisted by Diego Zuniga 1:29 into the second half. The Blast extended their lead with a goal scored by Levi Houapeu and assisted by J.T. Noone. Minutes later, Diego Zuniga, assisted by Tony Donatelli, brought the score to 11-0.  Roar’s, Jordan Thomas, got his team on the board first, 6:54 into the quarter with an assist from Angel Rivillo-Riuz. Shortly after Angel Rivillo-Riuz helped the Roar to their second goal of the night when he assisted Kingsley Onwuka. The Blast bounced back with a goal from Tony Donatelli, assisted by Adauto Neto. On a restart, Mike Lookingland added another goal for the Blast and helped the Blast to a 15-4 lead at the end of the third quarter.

 

Adriano Dos Santos got the Blast going early in the fourth quarter with a 3-point goal. The Blast added another 3-point goal 3:33into the four quarter from Max Ferdinand, also unassisted. Shortly after, J.T. Noone extended the Blast lead to 23-4, and Adauto Neto assisted his second goal of the night. With ten minutes remaining in the final quarter, Kyle Martyn scored for the Roar off an assist from Angel Rivillo-Ruiz.  At the final whistle the Blast improved their record to 14-3 and beat the Roar 23-6.

 

The Blast were led offensively by Tony Donatelli, who had 2 goals and 1 assist in tonight’s victory against the Roar. Adauto Neto also attributed 1 goal and 2 assists, lifting the Blast to a 23-6 victory. Troy Hernandez improves his personal record to 4-0, protecting the goal with 3 saves, while the Baltimore defense only allowed 3 goals.

 

The Baltimore Blast takes on the Syracuse Silver Knights tomorrow night, February 22nd at home at 6:05pm for the fourth matchup of the year. Syracuse are 10-7 and are trying to secure the third seed in the playoff. Kenardo Forbes leads the Knights with 55 points and Machel Millwood has 51. The Silver Knights are coached by Tommy Tanner.
