Towson faces Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State this weekend

Towson Travels to Texas for four-team tournament December 6-7

NAGOGDOCHES, Texas. – The Towson men’s basketball team is set to travel to Texas this weekend to compete in the Lumberjack E-Tech Classic, hosted by Stephen F. Austin University.

The Tigers will take on Stephen F. Austin on Friday at 9 p.m. before facing Sam Houston State on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Both contests can be heard on the Towson Sports Network with Zach Maskavich calling the action. Saturday’s game against the Bearkats can be seen on Comcast SportsNet.

Towson (6-2) has won three straight games since dropping a pair of contests on the road to teams currently ranked in the Top 15 nationally. The Tigers are coming off wins over The Citadel (84-59) and Abilene Christian (74-47) in Battle 4 Atlantis games at Towson.

Sophomore Four McGlynn was named Co-MVP of the tournament after averaging 16.5 points per game in the two wins. The guard, who has started the last three games for the Tigers, has hit four three-pointers in each of his last two games and tallied a season-high 19 points against The Citadel.

Senior Marcus Damas is averaging 17.3 points and is shooting 61.3 percent from the floor over his last three games. The forward, who has scored in double figures in all but two games this season, netted a season-high 22 points in a win over UMBC last week.

Stephen F. Austin currently owns the nation’s fourth largest home winning streak at 20 games. The Lumberjacks are 6-2 on the year and have won three straight games. Jacob Parker leads SFA in scoring (17.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rpg).

Sam Houston State (5-3) has dropped three of its last four games after starting the year 4-0. The Bearkats average 7.5 three-pointers per game and are shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc this season. Junior guard Kaheem Ransom paces Sam Houston in scoring with 12.6 points per game.

Towson has never faced Stephen F. Austin or Sam Houston State in men’s basketball.
