TSO didn’t post in Charm City this Christmas, and you know someone who was bitter. I’d be willing to go see them Sunday night though, their Beethoven stuff is also awesome…

Does anyone just want to GIVE me tickets to the Punch Brothers show Friday night? Most of you haven’t given me a birthday present in years.

Enjoy skateboarding? Hip-hop? Marijuana? Here’s Kid Cudi…

Jack White is sorta becoming that “I don’t care what he does I’m just going to like it” man for the 21st century. Are we still in the 21st century?

9. The Raven” and “The Five-Year Engagement” out in theaters (Friday); Contraband” available on Blu-Ray/DVD (Tuesday); Tom Brokaw (Tuesday 8pm Meyerhoff Symphony Hall); Sugarloaf Crafts Festival (Friday-Sunday Timonium Fairgrounds)

I’d love to dissect Jason Segel’s new flick (I think it actually looks good) or try to figure out what the hell they do at the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival, but I don’t know where else in T10BD I’d be able to post this picture of a frog sitting on a bench like a human…

We all agree this is the greatest picture of all time, right?

Like his putting, Tiger’s apology comes up short

Posted on 07 April 2012 by Drew Forrester

It almost came across like an apology from Fonzie on Happy Days.

Remember that?  He couldn’t ever say “I’m sorry” without stumbling and bumbling over it.  It would go something like this: “I’m sor….I’m sorr…I’m sorrrrr…”

Tiger Woods couldn’t do it either on Saturday at Augusta National.

He tried.  But he couldn’t do it.

Woods, following a 3rd round 72 that left him using binoculars to see the leaders, was asked about Friday’s club-kicking incident on the 16th tee.

“Certainly, I’m frustrated at times and I apologize if I offended anyone with that,” Tiger said.

“But I’ve hit some bad shots and it’s certainly frustrating at times not hitting the ball where you need to hit it,” he concluded.

Sounded like the Fonz to me.

“I apologize if I offended anyone…BUT”

No, Tiger.  No “buts” this time around.  No need to explain WHY you kicked that club.  We all know why.  You can’t play the course you once dominated.  It’s there for everyone to see.  And you can’t figure out how it’s happened.  So when you get frustrated, you do things like drop kicking your club.

Here’s the way Tiger should have apologized.

“I need to go back to my round on Friday and address something that happened on the 16th tee.  After a bad shot, I reacted inappropriately by kicking my club on the ground.  There’s no room for that at any level of golf, but most certainly not from someone like myself who values the traditions of The Masters and has great respect for the people who run this event and the fans who attend it and watch it on TV.  I’m deeply sorry for that outburst.”

Done.

No excuses.  No quips about being frustrated and all that other stuff.

Just say “I’m sorry”.

You could even throw in there a “it won’t happen again” comment if you wish, but no one would believe it.

A simple “I’m sorry” would have sufficed.

Instead, we got 1/4 of an apology and 3/4 of an explanation about how the greatest player of the last 20 years can’t handle hitting a bad 9-iron on a Friday afternoon at the 16th hole of the 2nd round of The Masters.

I saw Louis Oosthuizen hit a poor second shot into the 18th hole on Saturday with a chance to tie for the lead, yet I didn’t see him pitch a fit like a raccoon that just discovered a dumpster full of discarded picnic leftovers.

Fred Couples couldn’t get out of his own way on the front nine of the 3rd round and was out of it before you could finish your 2nd beer, but there weren’t any clubs thrown or wild lashes into the ground with a misbehaving driver.

Lots of players hit bad shots in major championships.

Tiger’s comments make it seem as if he’s the only one that occasionally hits one where he shouldn’t.

Given the chance to right his wrong from Friday’s temper tantrum, Tiger couldn’t even do that properly on Saturday afternoon.

He couldn’t just say, “I’m sorry.”

Worst of all?  That’s all we wanted from him.  Just those two words.

Honorable Mention: Mixed Martial Arts-Bellator Fighting Championships 64 (Friday 8pm from Windsor, Ontario, Canada live on MTV2); Women’s College Lacrosse: Maryland @ North Carolina (Saturday 3pm from Chapel Hill, NC live on ESPN3.com); Soccer: Team USA Women vs. Brazil (Tuesday 7am from Chiba, Japan live on ESPN2), MLS-Seattle Sounders @ DC United (Saturday 7:30pm RFK Stadium)

10. Alabama Shakes (Saturday 8pm Rams Head Live); Cody Canada/Shooter Jennings (Friday 8pm Recher Theatre); Kevin Costner & Modern West (Tuesday & Wednesday 8pm Rams Head on Stage); Snow Patrol (Friday 7pm Saturday 8pm 9:30 Club); Moody Blues (Tuesday 8pm D.A.R. Constitution Hall); Of Monsters And Men “My Head Is An Animal” available in stores/on iTunes (Tuesday)

I’ll be at RHL Saturday night because I’m ALL IN…

I wish I could tell you I enjoyed The Moody Blues. Sadly I do not. But here’s this because there’s not much going on this week…

Now here’s Snow Patrol. Look, if Paul McCartney was playing this week I’d post something of his…

I think I posted the studio version of “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men last week. But I’m posting them again this week because THEY’RE REALLY FREAKING GOOD…

9. Mike Epps (Saturday 8pm 1st Mariner Arena); Kevin James (Wednesday 7:30pm Warner Theatre); Royal Comedy Tour feat. Bruce Bruce, Sommore, Mark Curry, Earthquake (Saturday 8pm Show Place Arena); “War Horse” available on Blu-Ray/DVD (Tuesday); “American Reunion” out in theaters (Friday)

We’re going to see “American Reunion” Thursday night/Friday morning at midnight in White Marsh. If you’re not going to see “American Reunion” Thursday night/Friday morning at midnight you’re a terrible human being and I don’t want to be your friend. So just make it simple and come with us. We’ll probably hit Tilted Kilt before then.

But honestly, if you don’t go see this movie you’re just the worst person of all time…

10. Van Halen/Kool & The Gang (Wednesday 7:30pm Verizon Center), Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (Sunday 7:30pm Verizon Center); Mac Miller (Saturday 8pm Patriot Center); Blue October (Sunday 7pm Rams Head Live); Mr. Greengenes (Thursday 8pm Recher Theatre); The Bad Plus (Sunday 7:30pm Baltimore Soundstage); All Mighty Senators (Saturday 8pm 8×10 Club); Sleigh Bells (Tuesday 7pm 9:30 Club), The Temper Trap (Saturday 6pm 9:30 Club), Andrew WK (Sunday 7pm 9:30 Club); Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (Wednesday 8pm Warner Theatre); Patti LaBelle (Friday & Saturday 8pm Strathmore); Leon Redbone (Saturday 7:30pm Birchmere), Three Dog Night (Monday 7:30pm Birchmere); Of Monsters And Men (Monday 8pm Black Cat)

The new Van Halen is TERRIBLE (at least the song is-I haven’t listened to the record), but it doesn’t change how freaking awesome this is…

I don’t worship Bruce Springsteen. (Some of you would have to admit you do.) I DO freaking love this song though…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GbWwDIo8XU

I have no idea what Three Dog Night even looks like at this point. I would be more than happy to sing along with this though…

Here’s another fantastic tune by a band called Of Monsters And Men. So now we’ve done that…

9. NBA: Washington Wizards @ Indiana Pacers (Thursday 7pm from Indianapolis live on Comcast SportsNet PLUS), Philadelphia 76ers @ Washington Wizards (Friday 7pm from Verizon Center live on Comcast SportsNet), Washington Wizards @ Toronto Raptors (Sunday 6pm from Toronto live on Comcast SportsNet), Milwaukee Bucks @ Washington Wizards (Monday 7pm from Verizon Center live on Comcast SportsNet PLUS)

Since Sonny Weems doesn’t play for the Raptors anymore, he won’t be there when the ‘Zards visit Canada. It’s a shame because if he was he could bring his creepy foot…

I get the feeling there won’t be many folks willing to click on Page 2 or Page 3 after that, but we’re going to keep going here anyway.

Tiger Roar-y

Posted on 10 March 2012 by Brandon Eyring

Young phenom Rory McIlroy has earned his slot as the current number one ranked golfer in the world according to the Official World Golf Ranking. McIlroy has staked his claim in golf history by being only the second youngest player to be labeled the best golfer on the planet at the age of 22. Of course, Tiger Woods still remains the youngest player to reach number one at 21.

Although Tiger Woods is considered by many the most dominate golfer to ever swing a club, Tiger has not been the same player since his sex scandal in 2009. However, he has been seemingly been regaining his legendary form of late with two top three finishes in the past month after months of struggling.

The intrigue of Rory’s development and the apparent revival of Tiger’s career could spark a golden age for golf. Not since the days of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Tom Watson have golf titans routinely squared off for major championships. Rory McIlroy’s astronomical development as a maturing golfer could pull the best out of Tiger at least for a few more years.

It does not take a golf expert to realize that Woods is descending from his dominate prime years, but it is estimated that a four or five year window is still open for Woods to be a force to reckoned with on the pro tour. Golf historians in 20 or 30 years may look on the next five years as a golden age of the sport, comparable to Nicklaus and Palmer in the 1970’s.

If Rory McIlroy is going to the next behemoth in the sport of golf, people need to know who he is. So, who is Rory McIlroy? Where did he come from?

Rory was born in Northern Ireland in 1989. The prodigy had been introduced to golf at the early age of 18 months-old by his father, Gerry. Rory blossomed into a fine golfer quickly, when he was merely two years old he was driving balls 40 yards and over. McIlroy love for the sport was evidenced to his family when he was a young boy as he received a golf club as a present, shown the proper grip, and took the club to bed that night with the proper grip.

Rory’s parents noticed his exceptional development so they picked up extra jobs to support Rory’s passion which ultimately culminated in his first significant victory at the World Championships in the 9-10 bracket in Miami, Florida.

By age 15, McIlroy was fully fledged in his amateur gold career. He was a member of the victorious 2004 Junior Ryder Cup European team. After record breaking tournament victories in his Irish homeland, Rory won the 2006 European Amateur tournament in Milan, Italy. By the time he was 17, he had already attained the top spot on the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Rory McIlroy became a professional golfer in 2007 at age 17 as he took part on the European Tour. After a successful string of tournament performances in Europe that year, the Irishman entered the top 200 of the Official World Golf Rankings in the 2008 season. He continually progressed in 2009 starting at a world ranking of 50 to finish the season ranked ninth in the world.

Upon joining the American PGA Tour in 2010, McIlroy became the first player since Tiger Woods to win a Tour event before he was legal to drink alcohol with his victory in the Quail Hollow Championship. Rory decided to create more history later that year as he established the lowest-ever first round score (63) at the legendary Old Course at St. Andrew’s during the Open Championship, formerly British Open. McIlroy could not hold onto the lead in that tournament and the perception that he was too immature to finish big tournaments sprouted.

McIlroy broke out with his first of presumptively many major wins with his 2011 U.S. Open victory. He dominated competition by winning the tournament by eight shots by scoring -16 under par. Rory’s 268 aggregate score through 72 holes set an all-time US Open record.

McIlroy’s fine play continued into 2012 which culminated with his victory at the Honda Classic on March 4 that crowned him number one in the world rankings. Tiger surged in the final round, produced the single best performance in his illustrious career with a score of 62 get within a shot of Rory’s lead.

All this momentum is driving to the biggest major tournament of the year on April 5-8, the Masters. With Rory at the top of his game and Tiger playing some of the best golf he has in years, this year’s Masters Tournament could be one of the all-time great displays of golf drama.

Top 10 Baseball Distractions

Posted on 06 March 2012 by Glenn Clark

Honorable Mention: Boxing-Orlando Salido vs. Juan Manuel Lopez (Saturday 10pm from San Juan, Puerto Rico live on Showtime); Mixed Martial Arts: Bellator Fighting Championships 60 (Friday 8pm from Hammond, IN live on MTV2); Soccer: MISL Eastern Division Final-Rochester Lancers @ Baltimore Blast (Saturday 7:35pm 1st Mariner Arena, Leg 2 Monday 7pm in Rochester); Tennis: ATP Tour/WTA Tour BNP Paribas Open (Saturday-Monday 2pm from Indian Wells, CA live on Tennis Channel); Charm City Roller Girls (Saturday 5:30pm Du Burns Arena)

10. Black Keys/Arctic Monkeys (Friday 8pm Verizon Center); Boyce Avenue (Wednesday 6:30pm Rams Head Live), Pat Green (Friday 8pm Rams Head Live), moe. (Saturday 8pm Rams Head Live), Orgy (Sunday 6:30pm Rams Head Live); Cris Jacobs Band (Friday 8pm 8×10 Club), Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers (Saturday 8pm 8×10 Club); Kindred the Family Soul (Friday 7:30pm Baltimore Soundstage); Playing for Change Band (Wednesday 8pm Rams Head on Stage); Mutemath (Saturday 7pm 9:30 Club), Young The Giant/Grouplove (Sunday 7pm 9:30 Club); Experience Hendrix feat. Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd (Tuesday 8pm Strathmore); Travis Tritt (Tuesday 7:30pm Birchmere); North Mississippi All-Stars (Saturday 9pm State Theatre); Bruce Springsteen “Wrecking Ball” available in stores/on iTunes (Tuesday)

The Black Keys sold out the Verizon Center. That’s amazing. I’ll most look forward to the part where the place that usually houses smelly Caps fans turns into one large Phoenix Coyotes rally…

Boyce Avenue is not an act I should ever voluntarily admit to enjoying. I should ABSOLUTELY never admit to enjoying their cover of Rihanna’s “Umbrella”…

The PFC band is fantastic. You’ll probably remember this…

Young The Giant authored perhaps the single most underrated song of 2011…

9. Bill Bellamy (Thursday-Saturday Baltimore Comedy Factory); Kevin Pollak (Thursday-Saturday Magooby’s Joke House); Todd Glass (Thursday-Sunday DC Improv); Baltimore St. Patrick’s Day Parade/Shamrock 5K (Sunday 1:15pm Inner Harbor/Downtown Baltimore); “Friends With Kids” opens in theaters (Friday)

One-I love a good St. Patty’s Day throw down a week before the 17th. In honor of that, I think I’ll make a stop at the Tilted Kilt in White Marsh after the parade…

Note: I’m aware that’s a Scotish thing. It’s late. I’m tired.

Note 2: Does it really matter anyway?

And since we’re here, I actually think “Friends With Kids” has a bit of a “watchable chick flick” feel. It also has Jon Hamm. As in THIS Jon Hamm…

Top 10 Baseball Distractions

Honorable Mention: Women’s College Basketball-Miami @ Maryland (Sunday 2:30pm from Comcast Center live on ESPN2); High School Basketball: Dulaney @ Perry Hall (Wednesday 6:30pm), Towson @ Perry Hall (Friday 7pm); Baltimore Ravens Regional Scouting Combine (Saturday 1 Winning Drive Owings Mills)

10. Anthrax/Testament (Tuesday 7pm Rams Head Live), Black Stone Cherry/Cavo (Thursday 6:30pm Rams Head Live), Umphrey’s McGee (Sunday 7pm Rams Head Live); Wayne Static (Wednesday 6pm Recher Theatre); Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe Presents the Rolling Stones’ album Sticky Fingers in it’s entirety (Friday 8pm Baltimore Soundstage); George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic (Tuesday 7pm 9:30 Club), The Darkness (Wednesday 7pm 9:30 Club), Jack’s Mannequin (Friday & Saturday 6:30pm 9:30 Club); Eric Benet (Tuesday & Wednesday 7:30pm Birchmere); The Fray “Scars and Stories” and Van Halen “A Different Kind of Truth” available in stores/on iTunes (Tuesday)

I probably enjoy Cavo a little bit more than I’m willing to admit publicly…

I both enjoy Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe…

AND I enjoy the Rolling Stones’ album Sticky Fingers. So I’ve got that going for me…

I really don’t care…at all…what you think. The new song by The Fray is freaking awesome.

9. Mike Epps (Friday 7:30pm & 10pm D.A.R. Constitution Hall); Nick Cannon (Thursday-Sunday Baltimore Comedy Factory), Alonzo Bodden (Monday 8pm Baltimore Comedy Factory); “Safe House” opens in theaters (Friday); “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas” available on DVD/Blu-Ray (Tuesday); Wanda Sykes (Friday 8pm Strathmore); Motor Trend International Auto Show (Thursday-Sunday Baltimore Convention Center); Sex at the Zoo (Thursday 6pm Maryland Zoo in Baltimore); Wishful Drinking feat. Carrie Fisher (Tuesday-Sunday France Merrick Performing Arts Center-Hippodrome)

This is a bizarre combination of events for sure. Me personally, I’d watch Denzel Washington act his way out of a cardboard box, so I’m excited for Safe House.  Of course, there’s no way humanly possible it’s as good as Training Day (language NSFW)…

I don’t know if Eli Manning would be willing to donate his new car to the event at the Convention Center this weekend, but I’d certainly appreciate the opportunity to drool over the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Centennial Edition…

If Jimi Haha is reading this, can you please leave me two for Saturday night? Thanks…

Third Eye Blind had way more good songs than you realize they did…

I heard a guy on 98 Rock say the other day “if you need your face rocked clean off, Rise Against is the way to go.” He might have been right…

Here’s Bone Thugs n Phil Collins. Not only did this happen, but I really enjoyed it.

9. Demetri Martin (Friday 8pm Warner Theatre); Carrie Fisher “Wishful Drinking” (Tuesday-Sunday France-Merrick Performing Arts Center-Hippodrome); Chocolate Affair (Thursday 6pm Baltimore Waterfront Marriott Hotel)

Carrie Fisher is coming to town. This is a fantastic time to remind everyone that Adrianne Curry once dressed up as Princess Leia…

I would follow this up with another thought, but clearly my brain is no longer in operation.
